Hoodwinked Too: Hood vs Evil

First off...I loved the first Hoodwinked. Awesome, low budget, indy animated flick. Folk got all over it because it 'doesn't look as good as Shrek' and failed to realize that this is NOT Shrek, but something infinitely more clever. I quote it frequently, in part, I suppose, because Patrick Warburton rocks. "Oh, look. More cave."

The second film...well...to the haters of the first film...it looks a LOT more like Shrek...you know...the later Shrek movies...where the gags were tired and it's like they were just phoning in the script.

What went wrong...aside from a year of delay (in which 3D WAS added, as I suspected)? Well, from what I can gather online, Corey Edwards, one of the writers of the original, had zero creative control over this. The three writers came up with the script, submitted it 3 years ago...then the studio butchered the story.

What the heck?!?! They reduced Japeth (the goat who was cursed by a mountain witch to always sing) into Scrat (from Ice Age). "Oh, look, it's Japeth, what will crush him this time?" That CAN be funny...but here, I'm just sad...so very sad.

And Boingo's cameo...wasted. Actually, that's just about the best word to use here. Wasted.

I have, perhaps, NEVER been this angry with a sequel. Ever. I mean, I LOVED the original. I know all the words to the songs! ("And the bird and the bear will be ruled by the hare as I maniacally plot from my eeeeevillll laaaaair!") I waited so LONG for this...then waited ANOTHER YEAR...and...the studios ruined it.

Also, as to voice casting, Hayden Panatierre was crap and, honestly, what the HECK was up with Martin Short as Kirk? Kirk wasn't The Cat in the Hat...why is Short playing him thusly?

So much potential...grrrr....anger....rising...

Oh, and finally got around to seeing Mystery Men. Better than I expected, but not as good as I hoped. Still, it was good for a chuckle...if for nothing more than hero/villain names...Casanova Frankenstein? C'mon, that's gold. Anyone read the comics upon which the film is based?
