My wife and I headed up to Cherokee this weekend to see our friends and family. We left Friday night but on the way, since neither of us had had supper, we decided to go to a great steakhouse in Sac City. We met our friends there and had a great meal. Really good ribeye for me and a filet mignon for her. Nom!
In stopping there, we missed the bad weather that went through the area. A tornado touched down about a mile south of Cherokee and another town was hit hard by it ten miles south of Cherokee. The storm system kept going to the NE and gave us a cool lightning storm on our drive into town.
That night, we stopped by the friends house and then my wife wanted to go read at the hotel. I went to my cousin's house for several hours, talking to her and seeing the kids. I watched about half of Pulp Fiction before going to the hotel to sleep. I barely recognized Uma in the movie! I think it has been years since I saw that much in a row. Usually it's clips. I have seen Reservoir Dogs more recently. Although I think it might be more interesting at some point to see it linearly even if that's not what the director intended.
I did not like our hotel pillows. They were not comfortable to me at all. We knew we should have brought our own. Ah, well.
Saturday, my wife went with our friends and hung out with them. I went back to my cousin's place and we hung out. Eventually we went to her son's football game. I had my camera with me so could shoot it. On the way there, we had a good talk, although I did push her buttons a bit. She was talking about how she was impressed with the coaches teaching more sportsmanship than competition, for the most part. Apparently, though, there is one kid will who fake an injury or stay down in case something doesn't go his way.
She said, "He really needs to learn that sometimes things don't go your way and you just have to accept it and keep going."
"But that's not what the Republicans are showing him," I said, oh soo sweetly.
Oooooh. She was not happy with that! But we did have a good conversation about ACA. She is in health care, so is seeing some bad sides to it. We did agree that on many points about ACA and politicians in general.
I got to see her parents at the game and talk with them for a bit, so that was nice. It turns out that they brought some homemade spaghetti sauce. We were going to have pizza that night but decided to have a pasta bake instead. I knew my wife would be fine with that! It was good to talk to my uncle during the game. Very fun!
We went back and I had to run to the store to get a few things as my cousin cooked. I tried making a fire, that most basic of human skills, and failed. With matches! And it's too bad but more on that later. My cousin had agreed to host our friends, as they seemed to get along together, and so we had a really good meal with everyone we went to see!
We talked a bit after supper and sat around a fire that the friends started but it was too smoky. Maybe if I had gotten it going earlier, it would be smoked out by now. Darn it.
We left around nine and went back to the hotel where we chilled for a while and then went to bed.
Sunday we went to our friends house and from there headed out. We drove through rain but it wasn't bad. We picked up the puppies on our way home and then had to cram into Sunday night all of the laundry and other things normally done on the weekend! But we got most of it done, which was nice.
A good time and I hope we can see them again soon!
