Can somebody explain this to me?
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/5/3/92611/69698 So, Arab states are, of course, upset with Israel for occupying the Gaza strip. Sharon has a referendum on his plan to unilaterally withdraw from the Gaza strip. The referendum fails, and the plan itself is condemned by Arab and European states.
If the plan was to withdraw from Gaza, shouldn't the Arab countries have embraced it? I can understand the Israelis not liking the plan because "it seems like a reward for terror", but why wouldn't the Arabs like it? Because of the concessions that Bush gave Sharon on settlements in order to endorse the plan? Something else?
I feel like I'm missing a vital piece of information. Why did everyone hate this plan? It seems like at least *somebody* should've liked it. I'm very confused.
