Catching up: other news

  • I'm supposed to be going to Vegas next weekend with Chris and John and some other people. I'm seriously considering bailing considering, #1, I don't have tickets yet, #2, tickets are now expensive, #3, I really shouldn't be spending that much money right now in the first place (even though I suppose I could use part of the check I got from my grandfather's estate when I was in FL, which, considering how often my grandfather went to Vegas, would probably make him happy), #4, I've got hockey games both Thursday and Sunday nights, #5, I'll be going to LA the third weekend of april for the UCLA welcome thing, and #6, if I'm going to be taking spurious vacation days it'd probably be better to take them the *first* weekend of April and go to FL for Passover... This is all balanced against... um... #1, Vegas is fun, and uh... #2... um.... warm? -ish?
  • I think I'm actually going to do Seattle To Portland this year. I've got Wayne seriously thinking about it, too, which will tremendously increase the chances of it actually happening. I went for my standard ~20 mile ride on Saturday and it felt pretty good, so I think chances are looking better than 50/50 that this will happen. I went to REI today to price out some stuff that I figured I'd need: Rain shell - $30, new saddle so I don't go impotent - $40, rain pants - $30, new helmet, since my current one is crap - $80, long-sleeved thin undershirt for chilly mornings - $30, handlebar extender things so I can lean on my arms instead of having to hold myself on my elbows all the time - $60. Man. This whole "caring about how much money I spend" thing is getting to be a pain. But anyway, yeah, STP, baby!
  • I decided to go with the studio in the U District. I move roughly near the 10th of April. Rock! I'm thinking I'll end up getting rid of my TV stand and cabinet thingy and replacing them with the same TV stand that has two levels of storage instead of one, 'cause that'll take up less floor space. And I'll probably have to get rid of my bedframe if I put my bed in the closet, but I never liked my bedframe anyway, so that works out fine. The bad thing is that the six month lease that I thought would be over just in time to go to school will actually be a month too long. Maybe I'll be able to do something about that, but if not, whatever.
  • Huge re-org going on at work. I sort of feel like I should be volunteering to take one of the worse jobs if it's only got a few months worth of work to do, but whatever. Wayne knows what he's doing. And tools work lately has been pretty good, too.
  • I would like to humbly request that the following schools go to hell: Gonzaga, Kentucky, and Florida. Especially Florida. #5 strength in schedule, my ass. Stanford can redeem themselves by letting me in to their law school, but right now they're up near the top of the shit list, considering I picked them to go all the way.
