Aside from posting a picture last night of monkey bread (which John actually made) with monkeys posing around it, I really haven't posted alot, nor have I been keeping on top of LJ lately. Come to think of it, I haven't been keeping up with other online services either (read: facebook). I guess I just needed a break. So what have I been up to? On one hand, I'd like to think that I've been busy, yet, thinking about the past two weekends, it seems like I've been up to alot of..nothing.
On the plus side -
• I went to CA for two weeks. The first week was spent in San Jose at the Photonics West tradeshow. This is a slightly different nerdfest than the other shows I go to. Whereas the others are all telecom/datacom, this encompasses the gamut of lasers and optics. The big topic people seemed interested in are lasers for micro projectors. Think an LCD projector, but one that's the size of a cellphone, and of course lasers creating the image instead of bulbs. Pretty cool stuff. The other humorous thing there was our jelly bean counting contest. I had a gallon size jar full of jellybeans and people had to guess how many. The top 5 closest guesses would win. Leave it to a nerd tradeshow for people to do advanced math to figure out how many were in there.
• The second week in CA was vacation. John met me out there the Friday after the show closed. We met up with David and Kyros and had a blast. Teatro Zinzanni, Monterrey, the PCH, Hearst Castle, Napa, Sonoma, Muir Woods and San Fran. All while driving around in a convertible with the top down and near perfect weather. I also learned that Napa and Sonoma are dangerous places, especially after several tastings (read: we bought way too much wine and joined a wine club). And last, but not least, I got to meet John's friend Tim. A total pleasure!
On the other side of the coin though, I feel that since I've been back, I haven't done or accomplished anything. Granted, I've seen friends and spent time with John, which I definitely do not want to downplay. At all. But I feel that my weekends are pretty much spent with way too much time in front of the TV and figuring out what or where to eat. PS3, movies, and eating. That sums it up. I've been incredibly inactive. (No, I don't consider taking the dog for a walk being active. It's more of a requirement than anything else). Maybe I use the fact that it's winter as an excuse. But even so, that's a lame excuse.
I need to think about doing more. And spending less time on the couch. Now to see if my drive can overcome my laziness.
