Inside of the terminal at Seoul is a "Rest and Relax" area that is a floor above the departing gates. So I went up there to check it out and was so tired on my way up that I ran into the closing elevator door.
Upstairs they have:
multiple lounges with comfy chairs
a grand piano that was possibly a player piano
a cafeteria/bar
a snack bar
an internet bar
massage/nail parlor
free massage chairs
showers
the transit hotel (but they wanted $75 for 6 hrs. I opted for the free chairs)
a kids area with a nursing room
It was pretty nice. I got some decent naps in. And a shower! They gave you a small hand towel, packet of shampoo and small bar of soap. Never thought I'd take a shower at an airport, but it was nice. I should have brought more clean clothes, the skirt I had was super wrinkley so I just put my purple dress back on but added the leggings. Lots of layering. Also, really glad I had my travel pillow and pashmina (aka, travel blanket) with me. Both have come in handy a ton on this trip (along with my travel flashlight from Karen's wedding! Amy was really glad I had that when we were in the bungalows on the first island, it was pretty dark at night! Thanks Dad for teaching me to always travel with a flashlight!)
They also have some Korean Cultural centers where you can do arts and crafts and get some nice souvenirs and then they have displays of ritual and costumes. Very cool.
Best airport for a 12 hr layover. Who knows what I would have done at an American airport. Probably left for a cheap hotel.
