finishing things

So let's see, I finished House of Ninjas on Netflix and House of Many Ways a book by Diana Wynne Jones. The latter was pretty entertaining for the most part, but I think i liked the previous one better. Was kinda distracted by the FL's name being awfully close to a brand of toilet paper lmao.

Anyway, onto HON. I have love/hate with 8 episode shows bc on one hand, why are they so good and so short? But then again, if they were longer maybe they wouldn't be as good iono. Unlike with Vigilante and whatnot, I didn't take much of a break, just plowed all through it. The plot was easy to follow. The Tawaras are a retired ninja family (kinda spoiler descended from Hattori Hanzo), but the eldest brother was killed six years ago by the Fuma and the middle brother, Haru, is estranged from the family working as a vending machine stocker. I don't want to give away all the various plot points, but basically the Fuma are planning something dastardly and the Tawaras have to stop them.

Honestly, it was a really fun show with a lot of action, a bit of romance, funny at times, quirky, and oh the OST was gold, Jerry, gold. It had like this funky noir opening and throughout, but then RANDOMLY some oldie would come on and idk it just /worked/ lol. I kept expecting it to unravel like Vivant, but it never did, and it left enough loose threads at the end to make way for a season 2, which is apparently pretty likely bc it's getting such good reviews??? Ugh i hope.

And finally, Kaku Kento is very nice to look at hahah. I liked the mom too she was funny and just casually weird. The villain/hero setup though was very similar in trope/theme to Vivant, which is like hmm, why is that a thing in Japan suddenly?

Still watching Happy Seven, which continues to be light and funny. I will probably start White Cat Legend next and depending on how gripping it is and how soon the eps come out, A Shop For Killers shortly after.
