I was talking with Gitai about copyright stuff today. I was telling him about the discussion about using cannon characters we’re having in GG (RP community for the unfamiliar), and used Luke Skywalker as an example. The conversation began to progress like so:
Me: I think we’ve only had one Jedi. We haven’t actually had anyone use Luke Skywalker.
Gitai: It wouldn’t be a violation of law, but it would be pretty douchey if he was used as anything other than an NPC
Me: Well yeah. But there are a lot of rp communities out there that only use cannon characters
Gitai: Really? That seems totally douchey and a recipe for OOC flame wars over who gets to be Mr. Black.
Me: Oh those other communities have application processes. You have to show that you play the character well. Sometimes there are arguments. I understand that those communities are full of drama.
Gitai: What happens when someone gets demoted from Sephiroth to Cloud?
I couldn’t respond properly to that because it made me laugh and laugh.
