A Night with Otus...

Good day and welcome to *dramatic music* A Night with Otus. Here I tell an account of my night last night at the Flower Growers Ball at Bicentenial Park.

Dressed to the nines and make up to boot I was picked up by my teacher from my house and whisked off to the event where one night a year the people in the floristry industry get together, pay $120 a ticket, get the goss, get drunk and bump up against each other, and then announce florist of the year and floristry student of the year. We arrive about an hour and a bit late (which IS fashionably late) and they are just telling everyone to go find there tables and sit, which we do and there are a couple girls I know from the flower growers competition I went in so at least I knew a couple people.

After a while they brought the first course of dinner which was pasta with creamy bazil sauce and a few veggies, meanwhile they rolled out the show girl dancers and a singer who sang all italian songs, the girls were doing things like the can can and I'm like o_0 "we are eating dinner here".....anyway after that was done we had course two which was roasted veggies for me (being vegetarian), it was ok at least they were cooked.

Then they did the speeches and blah blah till they got to the florist of the year awards which was won by the lady at our table *cheers* so she got up on stage and was too embarressed to say anything, perfectly understandable in a room of a couple hundred people. At this point I was extremely nervous and couldnt sit still, I was kinda hoping I wouldn't win anything so I wouldn't have to get up on stage and possibly fall flat on my face.

It came to the point I feared, they were announcing the winners of the competition who receive a $2500 scolarship for advanced design next year, there were to be three winners and one overall student of the year winner, first one to be called up was one of the girls at my table from my college *cheers again*, So I relaxed a little glad not to be alone up on stage. At this point they announced my name.....I freaked and my table starts squeeling, I get up and have to walk accross the middle of the dance floor to get to the stage, I don't fall over thank god, and take my place next the other girl (Alison) holding her hand cause my knees are shaking. Lastly there is only one more girl to come up, so she gets called up and we wait for the Student Of The Year announcement.....It's Alison! I'm thrilled not to have to make a speech while holding a massive trophey hehehe. Pics were taken then I get to go back to my seat with lots of congratulations.

We have desert which is a berry bread pudding thing...not very nice so I left it there and the dancing started. At this point quite a few people were drunk and staggering around one of them being a 65 year old lady judge from the competition who stole my teachers date to dance with (he is about 35) it was rather scary....especially for him. Table 21 (our table) ruled the dance floor, we were shakin it up and down the floor up untill one of the other judges, a guy about 65 as well tapped me on the shoulder and grabed my face shouting how terrific I did at the competition and squeezing the life out of me REPEATEDLY! I was well and truely O_O "help me superman! or anyone!", he just kept shouting how wonderful I was till my teachers date reappeared and chased him off. God I was grateful later he came up to a teacher at our table, blew in her ear, kissed her on both cheeks, hugged her and grabbed hold of her boob! I was eternaly thankful that I was on the other side of the table.

We ended up leaving at about 12:30 then they dropped me and my table arrangement I nicked home, everyone was asleep so I got changed and went to bed.....now it's about 11:40am, my mum went out early this morning, and I got a message now saying she had just checked her phone and saw the message I sent last night saying "I won." haha I kinda wish I could see her face....she prolly assumed I didn't win cause I didn't say anything. Hehehe I'm wicked.

Thus ends my account of A Night with Otus.
