I woke up in a really good mood today. *glowey*
First of all I want to say thank you for all of the wonderful Vday messages! I had a lot of fun reading them, and you guys really blew me away. There were quite a few very sweet messages, both anonymous & signed, and one that actually made me all teary-eyed. Thank you, all of you. <3
Secondly I would like to say phooey on all you bah-humbuggers and "OMG I HATE VDAY" peoples.
Valentine's Day doesn't have to be about a couple, it's about love. Love yourself, love your family, love your friends, love what you have in life.
Valentine's Day doesn't have to be a "Hallmark holiday" unless you make it one. Do something non-traditional. Go on a picnic, have a game night, call the ones you love, just give them a big hug and tell them how much you appreciate them! It doesn't have to be the cookiecutter card & flowers & chocolate - I personally think that putting effort into doing something out of the ordinary is even more rewarding to the receiver. Don't waste your money on flowers that will be dead in a week - spend some quality time with your love instead!
We as a society have turned all of our holidays into "hallmark holidays" and money makers. Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter.... we still embrace them all, send out the greetings, pass out the candy, buy the turkey, paint the eggs, make up stupid slogans to remind us to celebrate the true spirit...
I've heard (or read) a lot of people say things like, "I don't need a holiday to remind me to appreciate the person I'm with." Or "He should be that loving year round, not just one day a year." And while this should be the case, the truth is that we all forget sometimes. We set into being comfortable and forget to tell the people around us that they are loved, and appreciated, and amazing. We forget to tell our lovers that they are beautiful, and sexy, and desirable. What's wrong with a holiday to remind us to remind the people in our lives how important they are to us? We all need a reminder once in a while that the people in our lives are special and deserve to know that, be it our family, our friends, our roommates, our spouses, or our pets.
The reason for the season is LOVE.
So stop whining, and do something nice for the people you love & appreciate. THAT GOES FOR YOU LADIES, TOO!
*hugs*
love,
valentines day
