Lots of games on today

But for some reason, I'm not sure if many of them really "matter" in the sense that regardless of which team wins, they don't really move in the standings other than adding points to hopefully move them around depending on how teams ahead of them play. Probably because we just passed the half-way mark of the season so it's not "do or die" time, YET.

Anyways, there are 11 games on today/right now, so here we go!

Starting with news items:
- the Philadelphia Flyers have announced that former James van Riemsduyk (JVR) is out indefinitely with a concussion. Apparently he was elbowed in the head in the last 2 games
- the Toronto Maple Leafs are NOT trading Luke Schenn for JVR despite the rumours
- there are reports that the 2013 Winter Classic will be between Toronto and Detroit (NHL, MAKE IT HAPPEN!)
- of course, I forgot to make a post about the All-Star Game roster selections on Thursday, so I'll get to that eventually

Now, the scoreboards (hilariously, none of them have any effect on the Penguins):
- CHI vs. DET: game's actually already done but it was a close one. Detroit won 3-2 in overtime, marking their 14th straight win at home this season (yeesh Detroit). Chicago is still 1st in the Central division and 2nd in the West while Detroit is only 1 point behind but in 4th (because top teams of each division are automatically placed 1-3 regardless of their actual point totals).

- COL vs. DAL: this is a battle for 8th place in the West and the score is currently 1-0 COL. Sure, this may not mean a whole lot because the current 8th place team, Minnesota is also playing tonight so even though either of these teams winning could push them into a playoff spot, it will depend on how Minnesota plays tonight against St. Louis. A win or loss in overtime for Dallas will push them temporarily into 8th while a win for Colorado will bring to 9th regardless of how Minnesota plays.

- NJD vs. WPG: another game currently going on, Winnipeg leading 1-0. A win or an overtime loss for New Jersey will keep them in 6th, BUT a loss could push them into 7th IF the Leafs win tonight against the Rangers. A win or loss for Winnipeg will still keep them in 10th place.

- NYR vs. TOR: the Rangers can hold onto top spot in the East if they win tonight. Any combination of them losing in regulation or overtime and Boston winning will push the Rangers down to 2nd in the East. A win for Toronto will move them into 6th place IF the Devils don't win while a loss will keep them in 7th place.

- OTT vs. MTL: a win for Ottawa will keep them in 5th place while a win for Montreal will keep them in 12th. Either team losing also won't change their position in the standings.

- BUF vs. NYI: a win or loss for Buffalo will keep them in 11th regardless of the results of the Winnipeg game. A win or overtime loss for the Islanders will move them into 14th place, ahead of Carolina (assuming Carolina doesn't win its game).

- BOS vs. CAR: Boston is currently fighting the Rangers for top spot in the East and a win or an overtime loss COMBINED with the Rangers losing in regulation or overtime will move them into 1st. A win for Carolina keeps them in 14th while a loss or overtime loss COULD push them into 15th if the Islanders win their game.

- SJS vs. CBJ: San Jose will stay on top of the Pacific division and in 3rd regardless of the outcome of this game. The same goes for Columbus, except the Blue Jackets will stay in 15th and bottom of the league regardless of how they do. Uh...not good?

- MIN vs. STL: Minnesota winning or losing in overtime PLUS the Kings losing would move them into 7th in the West. St. Louis winning will move them into 4th, ahead of Detroit while a loss in overtime would keep them in 5th.

- PHI vs. NSH: Philadelphia winning or losing will keep them in 4th place in the East. Nashville will stay in 6th in the West regardless of the outcome of this game or any of the other games tonight.

- LAK vs. CGY: the Kings winning would keep them in 7th while a loss or overtime loss PLUS Minnesota winning would result in them dropping to 8th in the West. Calgary will move into 10th IF they win their game but if they lose in regulation or overtime, they stay in 11th. Of course, the biggest stories of this game are the Sutter brothers are coaching against each other AND Mike Cammalleri plays his 1st game as a member of the Calgary Flames, again, after the crazy trade on Thursday.

Now, to actually go do something other than clean my room and stare at the computer. I need new hobbies.
