LJ wouldn’t let me update yesterday!!
Anywho,
I almost didn’t get to go, because Dad had to do some last minute cleaning and junk over at the old house. But I begged, whined, etc. and was able to talk him into letting him drop me off! I know, I am 22, but Dad drives me insane sometimes and this was the first movie I have been able to convince him to let me see alone. He wont even let me spend the night at a friends house…not like I have many RL friends at the moment anyways. *Cough* where was I?
First off, I have no idea if this will contain spoilers….probably, but I doubt that anyone will have any idea what I am talking about :P Secondly…man that was a weird movie..and I have been saying that since I got out of the theater!
Starting at the beginning…(I got the first batch of popcorn!! :D) I was in the theater about 10 minutes before the movie started….well, 15 because they started late. I like this theater because they don’t play classical music Disney music while we wait for the movie to start (Yes, I dread the other theater just for that reason!) Well, first song I heard played was this weird blues song, called The Apple Tree. *sicker* I have to find things to amuse myself when I am alone :D Granted, it doesn’t take much!
I slowly watched people trickle into the theater…I must have picked a good seat because everyone seemed to want to sit in the row in front of me! I’m glad for the new stadium seating. All in all, there were only about 20 people, probably less, and only about 3 were around my age, the rest were all at least in their 40s, including one guy up and to my left who seemed to like laughing at every little joke…which was about…20 times…and the movie is definitely not a comedy!
Only 2 trailers!! I live for movie trailers!!
I did enjoy the movie, but I am not sure that I will ever want to see it again. So different from any thing I had seen before. Some parts seemed so unrealistic (the crash) that I was wondering if it was a dream! I wish they would have made mention about the house that was totaled in that crash. Also, the photograph scenes…I was squirming in my seat, it was making me claustrophobic! The sure played onto him being a hypochondriac a lot! Some of the guys were joking about not wanting to touch the theater door as we were leaving!
I was disappointed that Alan Alda wasn’t in it more. He was great in it, but no more so than he is in most of his other films. I love the care his character went through to make Howard flip out. So Alan! I wish there were a few more intense scenes that would give him a better chance at the award :-/
All the acting was great, esp DiCaprio’s and Blanchet. A lot of other people who I normally am able to recognize on spot and I missed them! Namely Alec Baldwin (not a big fan, but he is very recognizable), Kate Beckensile (I know I spelled that wrong! I love her acting and I am not even sure what character she played! I might have been able to pick her out had I known she was in the film. Ian Holm (!!I had wondered why that guy looked familiar! I think I am too use to seeing him at a 4 ft hobbit :P)
It took about half of the movie for me to get into it…into the time frame, etc. I know for a fact that I will never be able to show this movie to Mom, too much cussing, taking of the Lord’s name in vain, etc. I could probably get her to watch it, but I don’t think I could stand to watch it another time and listen to her sigh and complain about the language throughout the film. I thought that DiCaprio’s accent as Howard would annoy me more, from what I had seen in trailers, but I got use to it real fast.
The ending…!!!!! WTH! That doesn’t even qualify AS an ending! Pissed me off!! Almost as soon as I got home, I started doing a little research to see why there wasn’t a better way to end the film. I do think that they should have added some text at the end to at least say what happened to the guy! Turns out, he lived a surprisingly long time! And, when he died, he hadn’t been seen nor photographed for 20 years and they had to used finger prints to identify him 0.o. After a little more research, I have come to the conclusion that it was a crazy idea to make a movie about Howard Hughes. The Aviator turned out surprisingly well :)
I think that this is the longest movie review I have ever typed up!! *Has urge to scrub hands atm*
Other news, looks like I will get internet for another month *happy dance* There is surprisingly few things to do around here besides play on the internet…Since I can type pretty fast today, I think I will try to get some more typed out on my MASH fics..so I say now lol.
Dad just popped in here for a break. He was at our old house cleaning when Mom showed up and started complaining about the mess and junk…she left here in a good mood, so for once it wasn’t my fault! There is so much junk lying around that house…mainly in the shop, that it seems hard to imagine it will get cleaned up by tomorrow for the new owners!
I joined the Sci-Fi book club a few weeks ago…mainly for the fact that I get 6 books for 20 bucks (most is S&H). I got my own copy of Medalon (good book I was raving about a few months ago), and am reading the sequel, Treason Keep, which is just as good! The other books I got look interesting too :D Just need to buy 4 more books in the next 2 years from them. I still have about 3 library books laying around here and I am reading a book I now own, go figure!
Nothing else too exciting around here…
Oh, anyone seen The Boy in the Plastic Bubble with John Travolta? *drools* Weird 70’s movie, but strangely enjoyable…the first time. The second time it kinda sucks! Only had to pay a buck for it, and on DVD too :D Now I own it forever lol.
Grrr….still trying to connect to the internet! (typing this in Word while I wait). Sometimes it takes 20 minutes to get the internet to do anything for me! I can connect fine but -.-
