I saw it a few days ago. Still letting it sink in.
Much hate for Ron, especially at the beginning. I did start to warm up to him after he stopped INFECTING everyone and started researching. While it is...nice??...that he worked to make a difference, he was really only in it to become rich, not out of compassion for anyone else.
I did like the friendship between him and Rayon, and I had to hold back a cheer when he put his friend in a choke hold for talking bad about her. That and when his friends were shunning him for having AIDs...those scenes hit the hardest. The scene that should have hit the hardest, Rayon dying, didn't really move me like I thought it would (maybe because we all saw it coming?).
Great acting all around. I kept thinking I had forgotten who Matthew McConaughey was, because he looked so different. And from seeing Jared Leto in so many interviews, I think I am developing a bit of a crush ;)
The movie was filmed in less than a month on a very limited budget, and that just blows me away. It looked very well shot...way better than some of the 'big blockbusters'. But...the language and the sex was off-putting. I got used to the language (you kinda have to), but there are so many people who I would recommend see this movie that I just can't.
I'm sad there weren't more extras on the DVD. The deleted scenes were lovely and all should have stayed in the film (all 4 minutes of them grr) and the featurette, equally as short, was nice. I had seen that before, which is basically like an extended trailer for the movie with interview clips, is what made me need to see the film in the first place.
Thinking back on it, I enjoyed the film more after I saw it, instead of while watching it. Kinda itching to see it again, now.
