I try not to get too excited about seeing certain movies, because I hate to build myself up only to have the movie suck.
But there was a movie coming out that I had a hard time not being excited for: 127 Hours. And for once, it passed my expectations.
Backtracking: I had read Aron Ralston's book, Between a Rock and a Hard Place several years ago. For those that don't know, Aron was hiking around canyons in Utah and his arm became trapped by a 800 pound boulder he had knocked loose. He remained trapped for over 5 days, and finally had to cut off his arm to escape. While I only gave the book 3 out of 5 stars, the story was fascinating and as soon as I found out there was going to be a movie based on it, I was excited.
Naturally the movie never came out around here. But I finally got to see it last Friday. And I watched it three times in two days, and again yesterday. I also found an hour and a half documentary with Aron that I had bought after I read the book. Forgot I had it :D
For those of you staying away from the movie because of the arm cutting-off scene...don't. The movie is so much more than those 3 minutes.
