Bloomsbury have decided to publish a book with an accurate cover. It's funny how difficult they seem to have found the concept. Anyway, well done Justine Larbelestier, for taking up the fight and winning!

The publisher told US trade magazine Publishers Weekly that it regretted that its "original creative direction for Liar - which was intended to symbolically reflect the narrator's complex psychological makeup - has been interpreted by some as a calculated decision to mask the character's ethnicity".

OIC.

"Symbolically reflect the narrator's complex psychological makeup" is up there with "interrogating the text from the wrong perspective" in terms of failed attempts to cover up stupidity. I'm going to use this one wherever I can now.

"We regret that the Black and White Minstrel Show, which uses cross-racial makeup and costumes to symbolically reflect the narrators' complex psychological makeup, has fallen under such unwarranted criticism..."

I'm impressed that they even managed a sentence as coherent as that. you half expect them to say 'but don't you see? It's ironic.'

But definately one for further use.
