Challenge List 02

Jul 30, 2006 00:51

XD This is the only thing I wrote over vacation. I must say the choice of items was awesome, though. Tragic Pair is definitely next on my list. *ponders the logistics*

Secret

Challenge:
Kamio/Shinji
Pants, vacuum cleaner, trash
Phrase: "How did I let you talk me into this?"

Warning: kissing? Shinji-ramblings?

"...How did I let you talk me into this?" Kamio asked defeatedly, surveying Shinji's room with something approaching despair.

"I really don't see why you're complaining," Shinji mumbled from the corner, already getting started by clearing the surface of his desk. "My room isn't anywhere near as messy as Kamio's room, and it's smaller, too. That's probably why we never do anything interesting at my house, because my room's smaller than Kamio's. We do lots of interesting things at Kamio's house. Maybe Kamio's complaining about being at my house because he'd rather be at his house doing interesting things. That’s a good idea, but my mom told me I had to clean my room, so we can't. I wish we could." Sorting papers, he seemed completely oblivious to Kamio reddening behind him.

"Shinji, don't talk about it!" Kamio squeaked with a quick glance at the open door, fiddling busily with a pile of unfolded clothes near the bed to cover his embarrassment. "Our parents don't know about us yet, so don't say things like that when your mom could just walk in!"

Shinji looked up from his stack of loose papers to stare at Kamio blankly. Kamio sighed and folded one of the dusty pairs of pants, letting the subject drop.

They worked in silence for a time, until the only things left on the floor were stray threads and dust bunnies. At that point, they organized the piles of trash into neat stacks just outside Shinji's door, and brought in the vacuum cleaner.

When they gazed back at their handiwork, a few hours after they'd started, Kamio nodded with approval. It was still cluttered, but it was an organized clutter, of a kind that Kamio knew Shinji preferred to an enforced, strict neatness. They were alike that way.

It was a matter of a minute for Kamio to tote the bundle of dirty pants, socks, and other articles of clothing to the laundry room for Shinji's mother to wash later. She wasn't there--presumably she was in the kitchen, cooking dinner--so Kamio went back up to Shinji's room and helped move the piles of old papers and other useless odds and ends outside to the trash bin.

"That wasn't so hard. I told you so," Shinji said, quietly as ever, but with a slightly more intense edge than the normal monotone. Kamio turned to Shinji in confusion, only to spot a familiar gleam in his best friend's eyes.

"Uh," Kamio began, eyes flickering over to the house's front door, and the open window, then over to the street. "Um, Shinji, I don't really think--someone could--"

"You always think too much, Akira," Shinji said, coming closer. "You always complain, but things never turn out as bad as you think they will."

Kamio tried to lodge a protest, but Shinji's face was rapidly approaching --specifically his lips--and there probably wasn't anything to worry about anyway, since what were the chances of someone coming outside at just that moment and seeing them?

Or so Kamio told himself, and consented to one quick kiss.

Or... two quick kisses.

Or maybe several, long kisses.

"Shinji, Kamio-kun, dinner will be ready in a few minutes," Shinji's mother said.

They both hummed acknowledgement.

Then Kamio spluttered and broke away to gape after her, but she was walking back inside nonchalantly, as if she'd seen nothing out of the ordinary. Shinji stared at him blankly, obviously irritated that he'd cut their make-out session short.

Kamio sighed at his own folly. What with Shinji's tendency to mumble everything that ran through his head, he supposed it would have been more surprising if Shinji's parents didn't know about them.
