The Things I Do For You
Challenge:
SanaYuki or AtoJi
A bus pass, a battery, and an apple
"...You want to go where?" Atobe asked, nearly gaping.
"The movie theaters!" Jirou repeated, bouncing in his seat. "Can we, Atobe? Please, please, please?! I even brought my bus pass!" He fished around in his pocket and withdrew the little colored card to wave it in the other boy's face with an eager grin.
Atobe only blinked slowly. "But what would you want to do there that we couldn't do here?" He gestured over at the door to his expansive entertainment room.
"We could watch movies here, but Atobe," Jirou whined, tugging on the taller boy's arm, "I really want to go to the movies!"
"You're just going to fall asleep," Atobe told him, but he was caving.
"Atobeeeeeee," Jirou said again, pouting. "I won't if you buy me candy, I promise..."
Atobe huffed, and Jirou grinned because he'd won. "But we are absolutely not taking the bus," he said sternly. Jirou only grinned wider.
They took the limousine. Jirou bounced all over Atobe in the back seat, and Atobe was thankful that the partition was up between them and the driver because he never could have lived if someone was witness to this. Traffic worsened the closer they got to the theater, and Atobe rolled a spare battery around the floor with the tip of his shoe as Jirou curled happily into his side. And what was so great about the movie theaters anyway, he wondered as he kicked the battery off into a corner. It was the same as watching something at home, just bigger and more crowded and with worse food.
But Jirou liked the food, Atobe discovered when they reached the front of the line for concessions. Jirou pressed his face eagerly into the glass display of candy while Atobe ordered.
"One small popcorn, and one medium," he began, gazing over at where a vat of butter was being drizzled over a mass of clean white kernels, "and leave the small without butter, please--"
"No, no, no," Jirou interrupted, scowling shortly at Atobe. "We're going to share one. A large popcorn, with extra butter. And a drink! I want orange soda!" he told the cashier, bouncing up on his toes. "And a thing of green apple sour gummies!"
Atobe winced as butter was poured into their popcorn bucket.
Food in hand, they settled into one of the back rows and Jirou immediately tore open the package of apple gummies, stuffing three into his mouth at a time. Those were quickly followed by a handful of overly buttery popcorn. "Want some?" he asked after swallowing, and licked some of the slick grease from his fingers.
"No, that's okay," Atobe said, looking back down into the popcorn bucket. The kernels were yellow and soggy with butter.
"Even the apple things?" Jirou asked, shoving the package into his chest and looking at him with sad eyes. Atobe shook his head, but ruffled Jirou's hair, which made him smile and the sad eyes go away.
The movie started, and Atobe nearly groaned. A romance? He quickly surveyed the theater's occupants, and heaved a sigh. As he'd thought: all female, except for the few boys with a girl snuggled securely into their sides. And--was that Oshitari?! Oh, that made him feel a whole lot better.
For maybe half an hour, Atobe boredly watched the movie as Jirou munched beside him. Then, the other boy began to get the slightest bit lethargic, and it had only been a few minutes after that before he sighed sleepily and leaned into Atobe's shoulder. A few more minutes, and a warm, apple-scented breath washed over the taller boy's cheek. He turned his head to look down at Jirou's sleeping face, and quietly, in the dimness of the theater, brushed a soft kiss to Jirou's temple.
Then he laced his fingers with Jirou's slack, buttery ones, and settled back in his chair for the rest of the movie.
