Gamer entitlement?
Someone on one of the LJ communities I follow posted a link...that I stopped and read. Some comments stated that this was an older article, but I don't care. You'd have to read it, but essentially a "straight male gamer" is going all WAAAHHH!! because his character got hit on by a male character in-game. In the article he essentially gets spanked by the creators of the game, which made me CHEER SO HARD!! Go Bioware!!!
My snarky comments to follow. Move along if you don't want to read.
Oh, Mr. Sraight Male Gamer. So, let's get this straight. You're getting all wangsty because a male character hit on yours, and as a result you feel that the "straight male gamer" isn't being represented??
See my big white butt? Kiss it, right there. Yeah. [okay, that went a bit beyond snark. XD]
Mr. Straight Male Gamer....don't play 'Skyrim'. Even though it's an AWESOMELY COOL GAME, with pretty graphics and a good storyline, and LOTS AND LOTS of quests....you won't like it. Because guy characters can marry guy NPCs. And girl characters can marry girl NPCs. So, probably not for you.
Mr. Straight Male Gamer....don't play 'City of Heroes/Villains'. CoX has *lots* of costuming options for those that like to highly customize their character [yes, down to being able to colorize MOST of the powers now, so yeah!]. But that pretty female character with the really big boobs? [and yeah, unfortunately one aspect is it's REALLY HARD to get a small-chested female in CoX] Yeah, the one you've been oggling because it's not wearing much? Yeah, don't hit on that character. Because chances are REALLY GOOD that the player behind that character is a guy. So, no joy there either, even if you can hit on pretty female characters. Oh, and don't bother hitting on those hunky-looking guys if you're playing a girl and want to hit on Someone Of The Opposite Sex. Because chances are *equally* good that the player behind that male character is gay, and heaven forbid you come into contact with THAT!!
If you really want a game that represents you, Mr. Straight Male Gamer, go play 'Perfect World'. You can find yourself a pretty girl [and who knows, the player behind that pretty girl might even actually be a girl!] and marry her, and that's the only option that Perfect World offers. Of course, much like real marriage, you have to pay actual money for the privilege, but there you go.
Just as an aside, Mr Straight Male Gamer? If you *do* decide to play CoX, and discover that that pretty female character ACTUALLY DOES have a female player behind it? Do yourself a favor and don't immediately start hitting on them as if they're so desperate they'll take anything that looks at them. Because TRUST ME ON THIS. We are NOT! We are in CoX to play the game, not get hit on when its finally discovered we're girls [small wonder my favorite channel is the Pride one. XD].
And thus, I'm done talking about the few games I'm familiar with in this context. XD
