While driving to Mom's yesterday prior to going in to work, I spotted a Siamese cat where I'd never seen one before, next to the city park. I like Siamese cats, so I stopped, and walked over to check on it, particularly since it was lying down in a rather non-catlike way.
What I found was a very, very pregnant kitty, who looked to be about six months old. I talked to her and petted her, and she was friendly, but she didn't want me to pick her up. She looked like a kitten who'd swallowed a cantaloupe, and her dugs were swollen, like she could have those kittens at any time. She did follow me, and I got her to my truck, but when I bent down to try and pick her up again, nope, she skittered away.
I spent some time knocking on doors (no go, no one answered), and I had to leave her there. I felt really bad about it - I still do. She was a cute little kitty; but she had a broken tail - it just hung there, and she couldn't move it at all. And she was skinny under all that baby bulge. But she had a collar with a little bell on it, so she'd been someone's pet at some point. -_-
I saw her again last night when I was driving home, and I'm hoping I see her again today. I reached out to an animal rescue group and they're seeing if they can find a foster for her and her soon-to-be babies. I have an animal carrier, so I can possibly pop her into that, and get her somewhere safe, before those babies come.
Wish her luck.
