Birthday Trip to St. Louis

Apr 16, 2017 20:00

I thought a couple of weeks ago I should go to St. Louis before the AKC Dog Museum moved to NYC, as at this point, I don't see that I'll ever go to NYC. I suggested it to my Mom, who thought it'd be fun to go. We wound up taking Rogue, because she's better behaved than Vinnie and enjoys travel and other dogs. So on Thursday morning, the three of us packed up and got on the road to St. Louis.

We first went to the .

Mom with the giant butterfly.

Our first stop was the bathroom, which had this lovely painting on the wall.

I wound up taking lots of video but this is the only still I have of a Blue Morpho, and this poor guy has been through a lot.

These butterflies practically posed for me.

There were also some moths, including this one, which was about eight inches from tip to tip of its wingspan.

According to the literature/video, the butterflies are gently harvested from South America and bred in St Louis just for this butterfly house. They were all gorgeous.

From the butterfly house, we went to the AKC Dog Museum. Rogue was allowed to go with us to that, so we picked her up from the kennel. The Watering Bowl has three sites in St. Louis and sounded like a really cool place. So I signed up Rogue to go there while Mom and I were at the botanical garden. We then drove almost past our hotel again to get to the AKC Dog Museum.

I couldn't get Rogue to do any poses - there were too many smells for her to investigate, OMD!!!11!! And she did some cute poses but I couldn't fumble either my phone or my camera out to get any of them. So you get pictures of the museum itself.

This is the entrance.

Airedales being scrappy.

You can just see Rogue's head in this picture. When she first looked at this case, she was actually staring in at the Airedales, but when I readied the phone for the picture, she'd moved and refused to return to the same pose. Next time, remember to take treats!

There were a lot of fascinating paintings but this was my favorite - a bull mastiff and a calf pulling a dog cart.

On Saturday, we went to the Arch on our way back to Indiana.

So there's a whirlwind trip with Mom, Rogue, and me to St. Louis.
