I remember being so devastated when he lost his alchemy. It was like erasing part of his identity. But with time I realised that for him, it may not be the case, that it was just, as you wrote it, a means to an end. That after all the struggles he may not need it anymore and should be able to direct his life, his purposes differently, and he doesn't need it. This little story shows it in a tender and beautiful way, that there's always something ahead and we just have to find it

Exactly. It was a shock that Ed would give up his alchemy at the end, but the more I thought about it, the more I saw how much alchemy had actually hurt him rather than helped.

Not like losing a limb, after all, and he'd already done that (twice).
