Fic Recs and stuff

Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday. A pic spam will follow in a few days about the trip to New Harmony (wherein, again, I forgot to give the camera to anyone else to take photos of me, so you won't get to see my cute new top Mom bought me). Special thanks to ishte and katleept for the 'mix tape' and 'puppy' respectively, for my LJ.

The neighbors woke me at around three a.m. Saturday morning, and I didn't really get back to sleep after that. I gave up around five, got the dogs up and fed and bathed, then showered myself, ate some breakfast and went to Mom's. We met up with Sis KP and Sis KS at an estate sale, where I spent $3 on three gardening hand tools, a really long strand of freshwater pearls, and an amaryllis (the latter two I gave to Mom for an early b-day present). We stopped at another yard sale on the way back to Mom's to switch out vehicles and pick up the dogs, and I bought a big blue bottle with a rubber stopper top and a decent sized plush Clifford the Big Red Dog.

We got to the house, I walked the dogs, and then we all piled into Sis KP's car to drive to New Harmony. I managed to walk one of the two labyrinths (one's a hedge labyrinth, which I took Rogue and Vinnie through), still need to get to the meditation labyrinth near one of the churches. I saw it, but we didn't stop. I did get some photos of cool houses and buildings, as mostly, we drove around sight seeing. Did stop at a couple of stores, and I bought a bar of soap in one (cornerofmadness, it's made with local wine, as well as local goat milk), and a couple of 'fairy garden' things (a knotwork fountain with a Greenman head and a gazing ball), as well as something else for Mom's bday (mosquito guards for when she gardens). We stopped by an antique store, and I found nothing I wanted, but was shocked at the price for Wade pieces, since I have a small collection of them (notably the sitting wolf, a butterfly, a parrot, a hawk, and a horse, I think). The little figures I have were selling at $5 apiece, and the larger pieces started at $100. Whew! There were two nice Breyer models, the rearing stallion in palomino (which my grandparents gave to me in the 70's) and the Arabian mare in charcoal (much nicer condition than mine, but without the gloss coat mine has). At the soap shop, I played with the resident dachshund, then walked Rogue and Vinnie down the street past the door, and he came out to try to meet them (I let Rogue touch noses, but didn't want to risk Vinnie getting into a fight, as he's always iffy with other dogs when he's leashed). A young woman was driving around what looked like a young Golden Retriever/Irish setter cross (by his coloring and build); he wasn't a 'town dog', and she was trying to find who he belonged to. He was adorable, and soo good. I hope he found his home/people.

After the shopping stuff, we headed back to Eville, and dropped off the dogs so we could go eat. We went to our favorite Mexican restaurant, and didn't recognize any of the wait staff (but it was much later in the day than we normally would go). Our waiter wasn't that great, but a couple of the guys who knew us came in and helped take care of us, too. The manager was one of them, and I asked what I got, as it was my birthday. He said, "A shot of tequila!" I'd already had two margaritas, and the second had more than the going rate of booze in it, so I said, "SURE!" He brought me over some of the top shelf tequila, and sat at our table while I shot it. It was pretty good, actually. No burn at all. But I was so hungry, thirsty, and hot, the booze hit hard, and was glad I wasn't driving.

Sis KP drove us back to Mom's, and I got to open prezzies. Sis KP got me a sculpture that's really fun, it's 3 bronzes on a slab of rock of a little kid flying a kite that's tangled up in a telephone pole, with a dog running along. Really cute. The child could be either a boy or a girl, which I liked a lot. Sis KS got me a tabletop waterfall fountain, a pressed iris book mark, and a little garden stone with a butterfly and the word, 'dream' on it. Mom bought me a shirt and a new pair of jeans while we were out Friday.

I was also given a really lovely ring and bracelet from a friend and I'll share pics of that soon, too. So, yeah, good birthday.
