It's recently been pointed out to me that I've been failing to post anything. Having a little down time in my office, I figure I can fix that.

Update the first: my article has been accepted for publication in December. Woohoo! I got some good comments from reviewers, some of which involved a lot of revision but all of which improved the article. This will be the best one I've written thus far, and in the best journal I've been published in so far, so I'm happy.

Update the second: I'm learning experimental methodology, in fits and starts. Sooner or later I'll actually get access to the atomic force microscope here, which is all kinds of exciting. The cell line that my undergrad and I were keeping alive got infected, but since we hadn't started the real experimental phase yet and have backup samples, and we didn't infect anybody else's stuff, it wasn't an enormous deal.

Update the third: Online dating has mostly been a dud. That said, I did meet somebody last week who seems interesting, and possibly interested. She's only 22, but she seems a hell of a lot more mature than my last girlfriend. (Not that N is really much of a gold standard or anything.) If she were any younger, I'd feel too weird about it... but, well, she's not undergrad-age, and she's actually working to support herself. And she's intelligent, funny, and good-looking, which may not have anything to do with maturity but helps with other things. As usual with girls I'm truly interested in, I would also be happy to be Just Friends. Too many people I know around the Boston area aren't actually in the Boston area any more, and some of them are thinking of moving away soon. I'm never sure how to approach that issue, but I don't seem to have screwed up all that badly in general yet.
