The "Whoops, I Haven't Updated in Two Weeks" Update

Alright, so, lots to say.

First off, Hoover game last Friday. Vestavia lost, as predicted. Still, we played better than I had predicted, and the show was pretty good.

Had a marching competition Saturday. We got straight Superior ratings, first in class for everything (though we were the only band in our class), and second in division (to Spain Park). Pretty good, overall. There's another one next Saturday, this one with six other bands in our class, so we'll definitely have to improve some. There's also a Scholars' Bowl tournament in Hoover that day, so I'm hoping we'll be one of the last bands to play on Saturday so I can go to both.

I somehow got dragged to a Thespian meeting yesterday, and through some bizarre turn of events, became a Thespian initiate. Yeah, not sure how that happened. Not exactly sure if I'll go through with it, but we'll see.

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance is out on the 14th for GameCube, and it's looking pretty fuckin' sweet. Definitely gonna pick that one up.

Those new Dell XPS gaming computers look awesome. Granted, an Alienware Area 51 ALX is still my first choice of computers, but I definitely wouldn't mind an XPS.

The Braves won their 14th straight division title this season, and yesterday, for the second year in a row, dropped their first game of the division series to Houston in a rather infuriating loss. But tonight, it's the bottom of the sixth, and they've already knocked the Rocket himself (Roger Clemens) around for five runs. Plus, Smoltz has looked phenomenal (sore shoulder my ass), so I'm still quite optimistic about their chances this season.

Also on Saturday, Alabama clobbered Florida. w00t! It was so funny on the bus to the marching competition because apparently, everyone in band is an Alabama fan, and everytime they would score, somebody with a portable radio would announce it and the whole bus would erupt in cheers. It was also conveniently timed; we arrived in Oneonta right as the game ended. Of course, now we've got to hope they don't fall prey to the infamous SI cover jinx.

And it's official: I'm now a Latin geek. Every time I see a new English word that's derived from a Latin word (e.g.: pugnacious in this week's vocab, derived from pugna, meaning fight), I cackle with glee. >_>

football, scholars' bowl, band, video games, the braves, latin
