Last week I went on vacation to visit a friend in New York City, and we made a stop at the CB:IHP Gallery in Brooklyn. I did my best to take notes on different scents so that I could report to all of you!
They didn't allow any pictures inside, otherwise I would have!
ON TO THE REVIEWS!
Accords first.
Water: This was a really lovely scent, very soft and slightly sweet. Not soapy at all, like I fear in most aquatics!
Falling Water: One of my favorites. It had a light ethereal perfume scent to it, but it was grounded by the smell of wet rocks. I swear to God, it smelled like standing next to a waterfall in a garden full of flowers.
White Truffle: Ok, so I'm an idiot. I was like, 'why is White Truffle in the Earth category? Truffles are sweet!' Uh, yeah. It's mushrooms. Mushrooms and dirt. Very spot-on, I could tell what it was supposed to be the moment I sniffed the bottle.
Soaked Earth: Do you like walking outside onto the grass after it rains? This is exactly that smell, the scent of freshly rained-on earth. A little uncanny.
Baseball Glove: This is the only scent that REALLY hit me with memories. It smells like that old baseball mitt that sat around your house, the one that maybe someone used for softball, or maybe even in little league. Very accurate, very strong.
Rich Tobacco: Oh man, I loved this one, and will probably buy a bottle at some point. I don't really know how to explain it, but it certainly didn't smell like a pack of cigarettes... more like fresh, herby tobacco. More plant-like than smokey, if that makes sense.
Wet Sheep: Uh. My notes for this one say, "Ew." I don't think I've smelled a lot of wet sheep, but I believe CB when he says that this is what they smell like.
Chewing Gum: This is one of the strongest accords I smelled. It was really accurate, and everything I fear when I see the "bubble gum" note in any scent. Not for me.
California Roll: Interestingly, I really liked this, even though it's scarily accurate. It doesn't smell like raw fish, though, it really smells sort of like a posh sushi restaurant when you walk inside. I could catch faint whiffs of the wasabi and ginger, too. I actually think I'd wear this.
Locker Room: This one was slightly memory-inducing, too. It smells like clean towels and... boys. I liked it. I don't know if I would wear it, but I'd sit around and sniff it all day, for sure.
Macadamia Nut: I bought a bottle of this. It's a bit warm and nutty and mmmm. After a while, I sort of smell like caramel popcorn.

Now, time for the perfume reviews!
Under the Arbor: I smelled dirt, salt, stone, and water. A little faint for my taste, and too dry.
In The Library: I wish this had been about 3 times stronger, but then I guess it wouldn't really smell like a library. I could barely pick out the paper (not that paper has a very strong smell anyway) and REALLY light traces of leather. I sort of think that this would probably disappear pretty quickly after application, since I could barely smell it in the bottle.
Burning Leaves: This was probably my favorite thing I smelled, and I would have bought it if I had more money. It smells JUST like Autumn to me. It's really not very smokey at all, much more the smell of dried, crackling leaves all in a pile, with maybe a bonfire burning somewhere in the distance.
Mr. Hulot's Holiday: This was light, and slightly typical perfume-y. It didn't leave a very strong impression with me.
Wild Hunt: Very earthy, the smell of trees and dirt.
CB93: This had a very sharp scent, way too strong for me. That's all I remember. :(
At The Beach 1966: Sunscreen and salt, neither one overpowering. A very light, summertime scent.
Tea/Rose: Ok, so as a rose AND a tea lover, I wanted this soooo badly. Too bad it's so freaking expensive! It's like, the PERFECT blend of tea and rose, I don't know how to explain it any differently.
Ok, I think that's all I remember... hope you guys enjoyed it! I totally recommend going and checking out the gallery if you ever get a chance!
