Migraines suck!

Well, an update of sorts. My burn is healing nicely, I'm still employed and reaching the one year mark, and my migraines were hellish this summer. I believe they're linked to air pressure changes of approaching storms. I had one within the past few weeks, and I found that I become somewhat of a tormented artist when they strike. When I say that ( Read more... )

As a (mumble)-year migraine sufferer, I feel moved to share with you some information received via my new-to-me neurologist:

Apparently recent findings have linked migraine with having a hole in one's heart. (The physical kind, not the relationship sort, that is.) In many cases, fix the heart, and the migraines ease. Worth asking after, perhaps? (Currently I am the subject of such investigations, myself.)

Huh... interesting. For me, that would also fit the profile of getting extremely easily winded, easily tired, taking a long while to recover from physical exertion...

Echocardiography is marvellous these days! Yesterday morning, I was lying there watching realtime images of my heart beating, with details of all four valves. They even have a filter they can drop across the image that gives Doppler -- they can distinguish bloodflow toward and away from the sensor, and tint it red/blue for easy analysis. The point being: they can tell an awful lot non-invasively these days.

Is it covered by Medicare? :P

My apologies: I'm Canadian. Socialised healthcare has a lot to say for it, from where I sit.

It's possible it may be covered under something in the States, but I'm not qualified to say.

I'm on Arizona's medicaid (which is better than Hillary Clinton's nationalized healthcare system proposal, incidentally) in two separate programs, and I just found out in late October that I suddenly got retroactively qualified for Medicare in August.

I think the tone of my comment was a bit snarky, and I'm sorry. I'm just dealing with a (rising-air-pressure) migraine at the moment, and so I'm probably not all that easy to talk with.

I need to ask my doc about that -- thank you for the info. :)

No apology needed! Honestly, the snark didn't come through your typing!

(Besides, I'm Canadian: part of the definition goes along the lines of, "you step on my foot at a party, and I apologise to you" ....) ;]

Hope you're feeling better soon. 8P
