New foal!

This morning at 07:35 Lizzie gave birth to a filly. She has done everything different that she possibly could.
-Lizzie was waxed up for 8 days before the birth.
-She was born in daylight not at night.
-She came out upside down so have her mum a bit of trouble.
-I wasn't expecting her to come out skewbald!
-if you try to make her go forward she goes backward.
-if you want her to go left she wants to go right.
-drinking from the teat closest to her isn't how she does things!

She certainly has a mind of her own.

Lizzie had a hard time with the birth. I had to help her by pulling her out. Being upside down was scary as that's how they get hip-locked. The birth wasn't progressing well at all so I called the vet but by the time he got there I'd already pulled her out. (I don't recommend anyone tried to do this unless you have been trained or read countless books on now to do it safely!).

For the first 10 or so minutes Lizzie ignored the foal. I was a bit worried that she'd reject her as she didn't call to her and didn't luck her, but happily after about 10 - 15 minutes Lizzie started to lick her and its all been good from there.

Lizzie has a few burst blood vestles but the vet isn't worried about them. After looking her over and commenting on her long legs the vet said "I do still have that half a dose left of semen she came from, are you going to have a go for another one like her?". I don't think I'd want to put Lizzie through it again. The stallion's owner is getting all excited because this is the stallion's first coloured offspring in the uk.

Pictures will be on here later when I have been home.
