Conflicted (and an early thankful Thursday.)
I'm a tough guy. At least in my head, I'm still the tough guy. Tough guys don't feel or show pain. They ride it out. Tough guys don't show weakness. Or fear.
It's tough being a tough guy. It might even kill you.
It's time to hang up the tough guy cape. I have to believe that I'll still be worthy of respect, even without the cape.
That's where the tough guy has to get tough with himself. Remind himself of why he was that tough guy in the first place. Not for himself, but for the little guy that needed a tough guy to be his shadow. Protector. Mentor.
I can do this without the cape. I know I can. I just have to believe it.
