So the dude hadn't started purposefully talking yet (he babbles constantly), and people have been trying to get me worried, which I have steadfastly refused to do.  The bear didn't start talking until seventeen months, and his impressive first word was "tickle".  I too was a late talker (though I don't know when I started to talk or what my first word was because I was a third child and mothers don't remember any specifics after the first two).

Today I noticed the dude purposefully attempt to say two different words at two different times.  He loves to drink out of regular glasses.  We have large plastic ones that we often drink out of, and this morning, I had just finished a glass of water and placed my empty glass on the counter.  The dude saw me do that, looked at the glass, and started to whine.  I looked at him and said, "What do you want?  Do you want the glass?  Glass?" Then he stopped whining, pointed at the glass, and clearly said, "Glee, glee".  I gave him the empty glass and he was very happy.

I keep a little baggie with his bubble solution and bubble wands in the back pouch of his stroller, which we keep folded in a corner of our living room.  He knows the bubbles are kept there.  He often gets them out at home and walks around holding the baggie.  Also, at the park he will go to his stroller and get out the bag when he wants us to blow bubbles for him.  Today we went to the park and used up the last of the bubble solution.  As I was blowing bubbles for him, I repeatedly said the word "bubbles" and he would say "ba, ba"--but I didn't think anything of that because he says baba a lot in his babbling (ba, da, and ma are his favourite babbling sounds).  Anyway, when we got home I took the baggie out of the stroller because I needed to make more solution.  Then I put the stroller up.  A little while later, as he was playing in the living room, the dude went to the stroller and reached into the empty pouch.  He moved his little hand around in there and then turned to me with a puzzled expression and said, "Baba?" It was so cool!

I wonder how long he has been purposefully trying to communicate?  I feel like I'm just now starting to see hear clearly!
