Evelyn stood in the center of her room, surrounded by boxes. She had a pair of scissors in her hand, which she was using to open the boxes filled with her clothes, books, and childhood toys she'd been too lazy to get rid of

"Lovely," Evelyn said, abandoning the box she'd been digging through to go to the one Katie had pointed at.
She picked it up, went to the bed and dumped it out.
"Let's see here," she said, beginning to sort the clothes into untidy piles. "Keep, keep keep, doesn't fit, don't know why I bought it in the first place, keep...Why do I own so many ugly shirts?" she asked Katie, holding up a flowered shirt with ratty lace on the sleeves.
"Let's see," Evelyn said, dumping her armful of "keep" clothes unceremoniously into a pile on the floor. "If we can get most of this shit unpacked today, then we could go tomorrow at the earliest."
"No kidding," Evelyn said, tossing the "don't keep" clothes into the hallway. "What's in this one?" she asked, going over to see what was in the box Katie had opened.
"Some other stuff," Katie said as she started pulling out more things from the box. "Interesting though.."
She looked back up at Evie as she pulled some more things out. "I hope you don't mind, but I might visit my best friend soon for a bit. She's having some problems of her own and she needs somebody to cheer her up, so I'm going to visit her."
"Not at all," Evelyn said. "Not like we're holding you hostage or anything."
She surveyed the room. They'd made good progress. There were only a few more boxes left. She went to start unpacking one as she said, "I have to go see my mum soon anyway. Once a month, whether I need it or not."
"Who knows, who cares? Probably drunk off her ass, if I know her. If I could get out of going, I would, but, unfortunately, my parents share custody, though Dad has primary care of me. But it means that, according to the custody agreement, I have to see her once a month. What fun."
She stood up next to Evie. "Anything I can help you with?"

"We should!" she said, excited. "I bet Julie'll let me borrow the car, once we get everything unpacked. Oh, this is going to be fun!"

She started to open another box. "How is your mum?"
