The Friday Five - Fandoms

Jun 30, 2006 15:39

1.) What fandom do you center on most?
"Queer As Folk" (US).

2.) Do you contribute to it much (write fanfiction, draw fanart, participate in online communities and discussions)?
I read fanfiction and sometimes comment...I have a couple of fanlistings (about twenty :p) and a "Queer As Folk" fanlistings & fansites collective. Does that count as contribution?:) I never really joined any communities or discussions. I enjoy reading them occasionally though. In general, it's a private thing.

3.) Do you think that such things are good or harmful to the fandom and why?
Such things...? Fanfiction and Fanart and such? For the most part, they're very good. How can there be any fandom without people participating in creating fandom-related stuff?

4.) Do you think it's good or harmful for the original creator?
*frowns*...Good. I mean, it keeps the whole thing alive. And the original creator doesn't really have to worry about what happens in the fandom....

5.) Why do you like this fandom in particular?
It's liberating, colorful and has fanfiction that I like. Which isn't the case for "Star Wars" or "Harry Potter". Maybe I read the wrong things, and visited the wrong sites, but everything was too esoteric for my taste. Okay, there are *some* good SW fics...But a great percentage focuses on Luke/Mara and then Episode I-III were made and...It kind of killed the whole thing off.
