Thanks for all the information! My hair is actually medium reddish brown and I did color it about two months ago to make it a bit lighter. My hair is a bit past the middle of my back so I may not apply the bleach directly to the root to save my often sensitive scalp. And it does have a lot of red in it so I will most likely need the toner. I called the Special Effects folk to find out where I can buy their product and there is a salon in Austin that carries it. I don't like any of their pinks, though. I want something more pretty than punk. I really like Deep Purple, Joyride, Purple Smoke, and Fishbowl. I haven't been around a black light in several years, so I don't really care about the glow. ;) I am still a little afraid of doing it myself. I might call the salon that sells the product and ask them how much it'll cost for them to do it. That way I can see how it is done then do it myself from then on. Or I might wait until my sisters come visit me on the 21st so that they can help me. I am still not sure. :)
but i suppose it depends what kind of look you're going for too...
but i've never seen "at home" highlighted/dyed hair that didn't look like it was done "at home".... which is totally fine but doesn't really match the look I personally go for...
but if you're just going for fun - - then it's probably fine. *hee* I grant thee permission.....
However - - if you're looking for some really cool, strategically placed pick highlights that will look really chic - - then I'd go to a professional... a REAL professional.... not like a Supercuts professional!
... I have to add you back to my website now that you're back!
I am definitely just doing it for fun and thought the fact that the colored streaks will be thin and not on the top layer of my hair might allow for a non-professional job. I really don't think it takes a mensa member to make nice, even streaks though. The thing that worries me is bleaching my hair. I have never done streaks or bleaching at home but I have been dyeing my hair at home since I was a preteen. I have seen people who dye their hair...especially in outrageous colors...and I do not like the way it looks mainly because the color does not look even. It looks lighter/darker in some spots than in others and when it starts fading they have blonde patches here and there. That is just ugly. I figure since I will only have a few hidden streaks here and there I will be able to maintain it pretty well...but it will also allow for a little fading without looking 100% horrocious. I am still not sure. Like I said to Lis I might just wait until my sisters come so they can help me (and pay for the salon if something goes horribly
