Dear Night On Fic Mountain writer!

Apr 24, 2014 16:49

Hello exchangee! First let me say that if we share any of the fandoms on my list, CHANCES ARE we have a few things in common; at the very least, we share a common love of these characters! A few other things I love, narratively, include FREEDOM, loving equal relationships, dudes who think their girlfriends hang the moon, femslash, baby idealists, idealism in general, and adventure! Obviously the ways in which these apply will vary depending on what fandom you're writing for, but they give a good basic overview of what my narrative priorities are.

In terms of stuff I don't like- "darkfic" basically covers it. I'd like to avoid things like rape/abuse/death if at all possible (obviously in canons like Hexslingers or The Killing these things have already happened, but I'd rather not read about them happening AGAIN) and kinkwise I'm pretty much vanilla. That said, I AM completely open to you writing a fic that would qualify for Night On Fuck Mountain, if the mood strikes you!

The Killing
Sarah Linden, Stephen Holder

If my feelings for these two were a song, that song would be "Total Eclipse of the Heart," performed acapella at top volume while consuming a carton of ice cream all in one go. It's one of THOSE ships. Basically I really adore Sarah and hate that she's gotten such a raw deal in life, and I love that Holder clearly also adores her and wants to make things easier for her, so . . . anything about their relationship, basically! I only ask that you don't whump either of them too hard, because canon has already beat them both up SO MUCH.

Hexslingers
Any

OH BOY. So this series hits like twenty of my particular favourite tropes (gangsters/reluctant messiahs/learning to love people/alt history/QUEER CHARACTERS EVERYWHERE) so whatever you'd like to write for it, I'd be pretty pleased! I'm especially partial to Chess/Ed/Yancey and Yiska/Songbird, but I would also happily read gen about these characters bouncing around Hex City doing whatever it is hexes do on a daily basis.

Stigmata (1999)
Frankie Paige, Andrew Kiernan

I feel like I should state upfront that I do not . . . as such . . . like this movie. But I love it at the same time! Okay mostly I just love the basic idea and the characters, and the actual execution is . . . ehhh. But I love the concept and characters! A lot! Hence the request.

My question is: what happens after the movie ends? Do they stay in Pittsburgh! (Andrew is, I imagine, persona non grata at the Vatican.) What happens with Frankie? Is she still a stigmatic or do all her powers vanish when Alameida does? How does she handle having messanic powers coursing through her? What are her thoughts on God these days, now that she's recieved pretty definitive power that he exists? I am very partial to Frankie/Andrew because I love the idea of messiah/disciple relationships that turn romantic and the subsequent grappling with love and faith and what it means to believe in someone. So, basically what the movie does, but . . . with less knocking the female lead out in the final act . . .

Jesus Christ Superstar
Jesus Christ, Judas Iscariot

My go-to favourite production of this show is the 2000 one with Jerome Pradon (which can be watched on YouTube if you're so inclined) because, like the other fandoms on this list, it hits a lot of my narrative kinks: what do you do when you love someone but don't believe in them? Or you love them and DO believe in them, but are afraid to let them know? With that in mind, I'd really love to read anything pre-canon about the early years of Jesus and the disciples travelling through Israel from Judas's POV- what did he think of this strange man insisting he was the son of God? What did he think he was signing up for? When did belief turn to love and when did it all sour? And why? (A note about Mary Magdalene- she's not on my character list, but given the nature of the canon, she's kind of bound to be there anyway- I really love her! And I know that different productions have gone with different interpretations of her relationship with Judas, but if you could wrangle them being friends, that would be FANTASTIC. After all, they make fantastic foils in the show; I'm curious as to what was going on in both of their heads.)

The Musketeers
Fleur Baudin, Constance Bonacieux, d'Artagnan

I know Fleur is a really minor character in the grander scheme of the show, but I really do love her, in all her teenaged idealistic glory. I love that she got up in open court and mouthed off at the king's advisor. I love that she tried to run away from home, in a city she barely knew, because she was that determined to get an education. And I really love her friendship with Constance- if there's one thing I think this show really needs more of, it's friendships between women. So any kind of fic about Fleur would be great- her growing up, her navigating the world after Ninon "dies," her being friends with Constance. The only thing I ask is that you don't give her a male love interest- I read her really strongly as gay, and I know not everyone might share that, but I'd really prefer to avoid seeing her paired with guys. (If you wanted to give her a girlfriend, on the other hand, that would be FANTASTIC. Maybe she and Flea team up to save the Court of Miracles? Maybe she meets a girl who hangs out at the garrison and they fall in love? Go crazy!)

I also put d'Artagnan on my requests list because I ship him and Constance like whoa, and any fic about them being cute and domestic together would make me really happy. Future fic with them happily married and Constance free from her awful husband? Casefic where they have to go undercover? A scene from one of their weapons lessons? Anything you like!
