This meme is THE BEST IDEA EVER. Basically, comment on the source post with a lost of things you wish people would get into (books, movies, TV shows, etc) and in your LJ, expound a bit on what these things are and why you love them. People look at your list and say "I'll watch this show in exchange for graphics of this character," and the fandom love spreads!

+I wish someone would watch Copper
Copper is a must-see for anyone with an interest in urban history, or the immigrant experience, or the Civil War. It takes place in New York during the 1860s, and follows an Irish-American police detective, Kevin Corcoran, as he patrols the city streets trying to keep his people safe from the intrigues of the war. The first season finished airing in November, and the second is set to air in 2013. Be warned that the show does deal with child prostitution and racism; it does so (IMO) with sensitivity, but if they're really upsetting for you, you might want to skip this one.
+I wish someone would watch Bomb Girls
Bomb Girls is a period drama about women who worked in bomb factories during the second world war. The four main characters are Lorna, Gladys, Betty, and Kate, all of whom are learning to navigate the freedoms their new job offers them. The show covers a lot of new territory for television, passes the Bechdel test with flying colours, and features at least one canonically queer character. The second season is set to premiere on January 2nd.
+I wish someone would watch Spartacus
Spartacus is a show you might know as "that Roman show with all the boobs and blood." Not so, my friend! Well okay, yes there are tits and blood, but there's also a strong story about freedom and society, a ton of kickass characters (including several canon gay couples!) and a strong script. There are two seasons and a prequel so far; the third and final season, Spartacus: War of the Damned, is coming in 2013.
+I wish someone would watch Twin Peaks
Twin Peaks is the noir horror small town show of my heart. In a lot of ways, it defined television as we know it today- the serialized stories, and central mystery plot it features have been mirrored by several other popular programs, notably Lost. It has tons of excellent characters, the plot is great (up until the ninth episode of season two, aka when the main storyline concludes) and it's a must-see for anyone interested in television.

+I wish someone would watch Perfect Creature
Perfect Creature is a STEAMPUNK VAMPIRE MOVIE. Admittedly STEAMPUNK VAMPIRE MOVIE is kind of a niche genre, but I feel pretty confident that STEAMPUNK VAMPIRE MOVIES could really take off, given the potential fan appeal. This particular STEAMPUNK VAMPIRE MOVIE is also a mystery, as a vampire goes rabid and must by tracked down by his brother and a lady cop while both the brother and the cop struggle with issues of belief. Did I mention the STEAMPUNK VAMPIRES?

Hanna is a movie about a young girl who is trained as an assassin and then sent out into the world to destroy a specific target without knowing why. I can't say much else for fear of spoilers, but if you like action, self-discovery, and fairytale motifs, you'll probably like this.

I'm going to level with you guys because I feel like we have that kind of relationship: Stigmata is a stupid movie. Stigmata is a deeply stupid movie. Stigmata is a movie that kicks off with an interesting premise- what if an atheist recieved the wounds of Christ?- and almost immediately drives itself off a cliff with incompetent writing, direction, and editing. The two lead performances- Patricia Arquette as the stigmatic and Gabriel Byrne as the priest who comes to investigate her case- really are the saving grace of the whole thing. Normally I wouldn't recommend something like this, but I do like the premise, and it seems like the kind of movie fandom could run wild with in terms of fic. Also, I really

+I wish someone would watch Newsies
Newsies is a musical about the 1899 Newsboys' Strike. Specifically, it's about Jack Kelly, who leads the other newsies to battle, and his friends Katherine and David, who help him along the way. It has a lot to say about the strike, but what it boils down to is "you have power, and you have a voice." The relationship between Katherine and Jack is an endless delight, and the found family-ness of the newsies never fails to bring the warm fuzzies. If you can't get to Broadway, I can bring Broadway to you!

+I wish someone would read Stones
Stones is a Canadian YA novel about two teenagers who stumble across a haunting in their small town and have to delve into the town's history in order to put the ghost to rest. It's a story about history, about feminism, about memory, and about love. The teenaged voices are extremely real, but they never feel obnoxious. It's been my favourite since I was a teenager.

The Lions of Al-Rassan is a historical fantasy novel set in a world based heaving on Spain just before the Reconquista. It follows three people from three different groups as they come together and struggle to stay together as the world comes apart around them. Beautifully written, and achingly bittersweet.
+I wish someone would read Women of the Otherworld
Women of the Otherworld is a thirteen-book series about exactly what you think it is- women who are witches, werewolves, and necromancers navigating their way through the Otherworld that lives alongside the human one. The books can be read independent of each other, though they have much more emotional resonance when read in publication order. The series starts with Bitten, and continues with Stolen, Dime Store Magic, Industrial Magic, Haunted, Broken, No Humans Involved, Personal Demon, Living With The Dead, Frostbitten, Waking the Witch, Spell Bound, and Thirteen.
+I wish someone would read Throne of the Crescent Moon
Throne of the Crescent Moon is an action-adventure story set in a world that resembles medieval Egypt- only with ghuls, werelions, and demon-hunters. It follows Adoulla, a ghul-hunter, his protege Raseed, and the woman who joins them, Zamia, as they uncover a plot against the ruler of Dhamsawaat. It's rocking good fun, especially if you like the genre, and the characters are all incredibly endearing.
