The doctors have determined that for the time being, there are no surgeries or transplants in M's immediate future, so they are flying us back home tomorrow where he'll be admitted to the regular cardiac care unit.
I'm so glad, because it was getting kind of despressing watching my bank account slowly diminish. Also, I miss my dog. :(
M will still be in the hospital for an undetermined period of time - so he still won't be home as in "at *our* home", but it will be nice to have all of our friends around and sleep in my own bed (alone....*sniff*), and know that if I do have to go back to work before he's discharged, he's only a few minutes away from our office.
So pretty much all of today was spent working up the logistics for our trip home tomorrow. There was a bit of a snafu with the insurance at first - they said that we would have to pay for the air ambulance home. Me and the nurses were all "I don't think so" so the social worker got it all straightened out. The person on the other end of the phone was either very very new at their job, or very very stupid. Anyway, free flight home for me because I'm making M's parents take my suitcase with them so that me and my duffle can squeeze into the plane with M and the air medics.
We're estimating (based on what the nursing staff has told us), that M's little foray into the world of cardiac care cost about $300,000. Our bill at the end of the day: $250 for one of the ambulance rides, which we'll get 100% reimbursed for when I submit it to the insurance company. Thank God we live in Canada.
