I'm not sure what a "web-based bleeper" is, but I would suggest a virtual square blinking and vibrating alarm beer cozy, like those used at an Olive Garden or a Chilis while awaiting a table. These could remain active in your systems tray until used.

I, myself, have found them to be very amusing. For instance, while visiting an Olive Garden recently and having to await a table with just such a device, I found myself sitting across from an elderly gentleman and his wife. He was reading the menu, ostensibly trying to find some item which he could still gum into a tasty paste in his wrinkled pie hole.

After a short period of time, I noticed a blinking light shining on and off underneath his menu. I waited to see how long it would take for him to realize that the device in his lap was alerting him to an available table. After quite some time, everyone in the lobby had noticed this and it was as if we were all a part of some large in-joke on this fellow. His wife was staring vacantly into the bar area, no doubt wishing for a peaceful death before the evening was over.

Eventually, the small oriental hostess (who was middle aged but punching well above her weight class when it came to orneriness) stormed over to the gentleman and said, "Don't you know we try to call you for table?" She jerked the menu out of his hand and pointed to the device in his lap. "You not feel that vibrating?"

The old guy just looked up at her and said, "Honey, I ain't felt anything that happened down there in twenty years."

There was much merriment in the lounge at that remark, and I suspect such a device could be almost as amusing among the high school crowd at E2.

Thank you for your input, gentle Noder. I have flagged the issue under the heading "Inappropriate use of web-based bleepers".

I suggest a deposit be paid for bleepers and if they are returned damaged, sticky or in fact warm then we know something's been going on. The deposit in this instance will not be refunded and the web-based bleeper will be burned in a great fire on the 3rd Tuesday of each month in the grounds of Michigan University.
