Author's Notes: I don't think this is a great way to start this off, but whatever. It fills the missing gap of Pam never talking about her father for me. :] This was also written for writing_binge. For more stories, please add my writing journal: thousandocean.

When Pam was five, her father died.

Her father was a minister at their local church, and he loved to draw and paint. He was the one who taught her to appreciate art. Her first piece of artwork that went on display was at his wake, and it was appropriately titled, "Daddy".

The wake, which was filled with rows upon rows of sad, crying people, confused Pam. She couldn't understand why they were crying. They would all walk over to the bed he was laying on (her mother later informed her that it was called a "casket"), pray, and then move on to hug her and tell her that it was okay. Of course it was okay. Her father would jump up in a few minutes, laughing at the hilarious prank he had just pulled on all these people. They would all laugh and then he would go on to start his sermon. He always went in with a bang.

However, her father did not get up. Her mother took Pam by the hand and led her outside, to a nice limo. Pam did not see the pall bearers close the casket and take her father out to the hearse.

When they arrived at the church, she was surprised to see a different minister standing at the alter- a different minister, standing on her father's alter. A different star standing on her father's stage. She was even more surprised to see the pall bearers bringing the closed casket down the aisle.

"No!" she screamed. "Let him out! Let him out!" She attempted to run out into the aisle to intercept the pall bearers, but her mother stopped her, while sobbing quietly.

"Pamela," her mother said, in a hoarse voice, "control yourself."

And so she did. Those words seeped down into the deepest corners of her mind, to control herself in the face of confrontation. The other minister then began to speak, and the topic was her father.

"We all know that Joe Beesly was a vital member of this parish and community," the minister said, "and that his passing is a terrible tragedy to us. But instead, let's look on the positive side. Instead of mourning over what he left incomplete, let us rejoyce over what he completed. Let's remember all the wonderful things he has done for this parish. He always put on a show to get a laugh or two. He always went in with a bang, and he definitely went out with one."

The minister then stepped down, and Pam's mother took Pam up to the alter.

"My husband was one in a million," her mother began. "He was the most kind, caring, and passionate person one could ever hope to know. Although he has left this life, I will hold onto his memory for all of eternity. His words encouraged me to be a better mother and wife. I love him unconditionally, now and forever."

And that was when Pam realized it- her father had died.
