Author's Notes: This is the 'last year' fic, because i don't know the exact age that Kennedy was when btvs finished, i'm guessing that she was about 24 years old
Kennedy walked down the wooden stairs, making sure not to wake anyone. It was only 4 am in the morning, but she hadn't been able to sleep. In truth she was still a little girl at heart, she still liked to think that Christmas was real and that Santa really delivered presents to everyone to make that 25th day of December magical.
She looked at the tree that Buffy and Xander had struggled with the previous fortnight ago, to get it into the house. She realised that even though the tree hadn't been very expensive, it was still quite big and the tip of it still managed to reach the top of the ceiling.
Then she looked towards the bottom of the tree, her eyes lighting up at the sight of the presents. Even though she liked to get presents, she liked to give them more. She liked to see the look on someone's face when they got exactly what they wanted - no matter how little or insignificant it may seem. She looked at the presents that she had picked out for people that lived in the house, and felt satisfied that they would like them. She had realised something the previous night, that she had never actually spent a Christmas day with her friends and people that she loved. Sure, she had spent her Christmas days with her mum, dad and stepsister when she was younger, but her parents had always rushed the day, so that they could get some work done. On several times it had made Kennedy angry because her dad had to spend Christmas day in his office, typing up letters and organising files.
She felt safe knowing that nothing could really go wrong on the day, though it still amazed her that the fact that it was the 25th day of the twelfth month made everyone so happy. She wondered if maybe in another universe, Christmas day was the 25th day of every month and every person was happy for that one day.
Deciding to make herself a coffee, the stimulants would keep her awake for the entire day, she entered the kitchen and took a mug out from the cupboard and put it back down onto the counter.
A noise came from the stairs and she went out of the kitchen to try and find out what it was and was greeted by the sight of her girlfriend walking down the stairs, she was wearing blue pyjamas and her hair was slightly unruly. She smiled when she saw Kennedy standing there.
"Good morning", Kennedy said smiling, "I've just put the kettle on, you want a coffee or cocoa or something?"
Willow practically jumped down the stairs and kissed her girlfriend
"It's Christmas!” Willow said, grinning, "Wow, look at the presents and the tree"
"I know sweetie, I love Christmas too", Kennedy said, leading her girlfriend into the kitchen and then hugging her
"Can we open presents now?” Willow asked
Kennedy smiled and walked back out into the living room. Willow followed her, still happy with the magic of Christmas.
"You can open mine", said Kennedy, finding the present that she had brought for Willow a few weeks ago
"I love presents, this looks shiny and box-shaped", said Willow, shaking the present that she had been brought
"Open it", said Kennedy
Willow pulled the packaging off the present and a box fell out. Willow smiled it and opened it
"Kennedy, this is brilliant", Willow said, giving Kennedy a loving smile
"It's a commitment ring, see what's engraved on it", Kennedy said, pleased that her girlfriend had liked her present
" 'Getting you was the mission - K & W' ", Willow read out, smiling, "I love it"
Willow hugged Kennedy and kissed her, Kennedy grinned
"I should buy you presents for Christmas more often", said Kennedy, putting her arm around Kennedy's waist.
And then Kennedy felt truly loved, that someone she loved had accepted a commitment to her and wanted to be with her. That was then she knew that this was one of many Christmas' to come and that she would love spending every one of them with her girlfriend and people that she loved and cared about.
As the day went on and the scoobies all came down the stairs and enjoyed the Christmas day, Kennedy felt brilliant. She watched people hug and exchange presents, she sat and ate Christmas dinner and followed it with Christmas pudding and then she spent time with Willow, The Scooby gang and the other potentials.
She did receive several presents during the day from people, the best one being from Willow, who had brought herself and Kennedy a week holiday to Egypt, but she still liked seeing people's faces when they opened their gift's.
She couldn't help but think before she went to bed, that this was what she had always wanted as a kid. She was a girlfriend, a friend and potential, which meant that in the future she might be the one having to save the world from evil. But right now, she felt no evil, she just felt like she had spent the best day of her life in the company of the best people she had ever met, and she wouldn't forget that day in a hurry.
