I love the Rose Parade. I lived in Glendale for about 3 months (20 years ago, yikes!), but I left just before Christmas and never got to see it. (While there I experienced terrible smog {I coughed the whole 3 months}, then fires, then torrential rains, then mudslides and finally a 5.9 earthquake at 4:00 am. My roundtrip ticket home to Boston for Christmas became a one-way ticket.)
It looks like it's crazy crowded there every year. I'd love to see it in person at least once, though.
I like OC. My ex-sister-in-law's brother lived in Brea. All my stuff was stored in a Brea storage facility when I came home.
I want to visit California again in the worst way. It's such a beautiful state. When I used to leave my house to catch the bus (ew - another reason I hated living there), I'd just sit on the bench at the bus stop and enjoy the gorgeous weather and the incredible view. Then after watching a bus or two drive right by me, and after walking a few miles so I wouldn't be late, I'd get to work and I'd remember all the reasons I hated LA.
I mostly want to visit northern California. I want to see Napa Valley, the redwoods, and Yosemite. I've been from San Francisco all the way down to Baja a couple of times, but I've never spent time north of SF.
Cool! I went to Disneyland while I was there and saw the old Anaheim Angels stadium.
Buses totally suck there. I'm used to Boston, where we have a very good mass transit system (the good old "T"). What used to piss me off the most, though, were all the buses that would just ride right by me as I sat at the bus stop. I swear, there were days when I walked miles because of the stupid LA bus system.
Boston is actually a very small city, perfect for mass transit or for walking. You can walk from one end to the other in a very short period of time. There is a great walking tour called The Freedom Trail that takes you around Boston (following a red line painted on the ground) to all the historic sites. You can walk to the U.S.S. Constitution, Bunker Hill, the Old North Church, and burial grounds that contain the graves of Paul Revere, John Hancock, and the parents of Ben Franklin.
In California, everyone wants a car, their OWN car.
Yeah, there sure are a lot of cars in S. California! Then again, you have greater distances to travel. LA (498.3 square miles) is over 100 times bigger than Boston (4.7 square miles)!
