so today was warped, and heres my little recap for anyone who cares to read the mind of a critic. started out great, i got in and caught a set from amber pacific, and then headed over to see relient k. both rocked, and both performances were similar, not a lot of energy, but a lot of spirit. then, i tried to escape hearing hawthorne heights perform, but somehow, i still managed to hear the end of their set, with that annoyingly catchy, but awful song, 'ohio is for lovers.' it was virginia bitches, and nobody cares if your homesick. then it was off to see the academy is, and they were quite impressive...i only wish i could be as skinny as that guy. then there was a tough decision to make, see saosin again, or watch reggie and the full effect heat it up on the hurley stage. hmm...well i met up with jamey and joe, and they were going to see saosin, so i followed. but thats okay, cause i'll tell you about why later. saosin were alright, in my humble opinion of course. but, i swear when i saw that at a club show last fall, opening for strung out, they were much more amazing, and yes, that was without anthony green, so it wasn't his influence. hmm...what was next? i think it was going to see hopesfall on the smartpunk stage, again, disappointing. i guess i just expect to much? i mean, they were energetic, and they played some of my fav's, but they just didn't stand out. so, filled with exhaustment and a frown, i splurged and bought a $3 water to make me feel better, and if that was what it was that was my remedy, than thank you dasani! but i really think it was the next band i was healed by. i've never hated this band, but i've never been a huge fan either, i dont even own any of their cds, but their songs are so catchy, that i just so happen to remember all the words thanks to some superfan friends. MXPX seriously ruled, and they killed it so bad! I wish i could see more performances like that one. after that, i kind of just walked around and tried to catch little bits of everybody's sets, big d and the kids table, dropkick, paramore, etc. i must say i was more impressed with paramore than i thought i would be. you see, owning a zine, i get a lot of junky bands that send me things to review, or promote. paramore wasn't one of these, they didn't send anything, but i have been getting tired of hearing cds by bands that sound exactly like them. i thought the only thing that set them apart was their female vocalist. but i have been following that band's progress through other mediums, like i admire this guy, Dan Dobi's video work, and he just did their music video, so i've been hearing their songs a lot lately. so, i checked them out, and seriously, that girl has a great voice! hmm...so then i went to the myspace tent, and i got to see james dewees (aka REGGIE) perform with james of the bled, and they did a couple of reggie songs along with some funny stuff they made up when they were drunk, they also had a greasy man dressed only in a speedo dancing behind them, it was so funny. so then i went to check out fall out boy. i had high hopes for these guys, and they impressed me. however, the only downside to their popularity is these trl little girls that are becoming fans...i mean i think its great they are reaching new fans, and if these girls want to listen to them, i'm glad. however, if they think they are going to come to a warped show to see FOB, and they are expecting its going to be like a backstreet boys show, they are a little wrong. first off bitches, dont wear sandals if you dont want to get your toes stepped on. secondly, GET OUT OF THE PIT if you aren't able to help out the kids that are crowd surfing! i mean, these girls were getting brutalized by the kids that were falling on them because they would gather in groves and the kids couldn't help but get tossed over there. anyways, FOB played really well, i'm glad i went to see them. then i tried to catch a few offspring songs from a distance, but i was really eager to get to the SP stage again for emery. these guys are really funny and talented, and their set made me pumped for their new album which is coming out very soon. so then i waited like 30 minutes at the thrice stage just so i could have a great spot for them, which i did. they did like 3 songs before the weather got to be really sucky, like it was rediculous, freakin pouring rain that felt like nails, lightning touching down in the fields, lots of fun! so anyways, thrice's few songs were great. then it was an hour of just hanging out in the tents trying to stay dry which was impossible, but that was okay. then, it was time for THE BLED! luckily, they were on a stage that was inside the pavilion, so they were allowed to play, and they were sick, i had 'pass the flask' since before its original release, so it was great they played so many of those songs. new ones kicked too. so...warped didn't suck to bad i guess, it was worth going. fun. o yea, it was great seeing everyone today as well, you know who you are, because there was seriosly too many people to name.
