well, i'm hoping this trend continues, because after completing "quietly" the other day, i came up with, recorded, and (pretty much) finished a brand new song today. i'm trying to get back to doing simpler things, and this seemed to be the perfect re-start to that.
i wrote a simple bass line and recorded it, put some drums over it, and then did two guitars and that was it. it's only three minutes long and it's great. as much as i love long, complex songs, sometimes simple and concise is better. it can also really help me stay on a creative streak if i don't get stuck on one idea for too long.
anyway, the song is mostly finished just because i need to mix it a little better. i was rushing because i was supposed to pick courtney up from work and i was running late. the drums could sound a little better, the guitars need to be panned a little, and the low end drops out in the chorus because i switched to a distorted bass and i didn't EQ it well.
so as soon as i fix it tomorrow, i will have it up for you to enjoy. although, if you want to hear the rough draft, let me know. i can always e-mail it to you.
courtney thinks it's sexy, and i'm inclined to agree. it was half inspired by the nick cave song "fable of the brown ape" and half by the stooges song "dirt". i'm really liking the musical pathways i seem to be traversing right now. let's see where they take me.
oh, i shaved today for the first time in i can't even remember when. courtney helped me trim my beard with scissors first so i wouldn't clog the drain, which was a tedious process. i now understand why ritchie tenenbaum tried to kill himself... (joking. that's the most heartbreaking scene in any movie, ever, and i will always love ritchie)
