[Today is a rather important day for April. Today is the day of the only holiday celebrated back home, so you can bet she's gonna celebrate it. So she can be seen rushing around throughout the day, looking pretty determined ( Read more... )

Hatter pokes his head out the door and blinks at the little blazing bonfire April has going. He wanders out in full-on pajamas, a Popsicle in one hand.

"You didn't tell me we were boozing it up, mate, or I'd have been out here sooner. What's the occasion?"

He plops down next to Franklin the electric doggy, and gives him a pat on the head.

[Franklin gives Hatter a happy bark at the pat while April gives him a smile.] It's for the holiday that's celebrated back home!

Holiday, eh? Well, if it's a holiday involving alcohol, I'm willing to start a tradition. What're we celebrating?

[April gives a small laugh.] The alcohol is optional, but everybody back home drinks today anyway!

We're celebrating something important that happened a few decades ago.

[He's playing with the fire now, poking things into it with a stick.]

What happened?

[April watches him for a minute before speaking, and she sounds rather hesitant.] ...About a century ago, there was a war that wiped out everything on the surface of the earth, only the people who went underground survived. They stayed underground until a few decades ago, and today, around about this time, people came up from underground and walked on the surface again. They lit bonfires, as a way of seeing if anyone else had come up from underground and to try and get their attention, and as far as the eye can see, bonfires were lit across the country.

...So, now we light bonfires today, to remember this.

[He was quiet for this, thinking back to the holidays they used to have in Wonderland, after the war.]

That's a lovely story. Apart from, you know, the war. The bit about the fires, though, sounds very... pretty.

It is pretty, and throughout the entire night all you would hear were people singing and laughing and talking. It's the only day when we aren't at each others throats. [April almost, almost looks sad as she watches the fire.]
