Summer
Haven't posted in forever I know... so little mini re-cap....I graduated, lazed around the house and read a ton of awesome books, applied to be a sub for clovis, did a hell of a lot of painting and door stripping, helped my dad at clovis east, did four marathon days of annual conference child care and now am in full swing working for summer arts.
For those of you who don't know what summer arts is..I will explain. CSU Fresno has hosted this program for the last seven or so years. It's a month long event in july that is split into two two week intensives. Classes are offered in many different areas of the arts, like this year there is acting, acting for film, glass sculpture, animation, Gospel music, slam poetry, dance, screen writing, film production, photography and more. Students spend almost all day every day of the two weeks working on projects and then present their learnings on culmination days which are free to the public. Also a lot of the teachers are artists too or bring in famous artists in their area. These artists and teachers do performances or lectures or exhibits while they are here. as house manager I am in charge of all of the venues and a lot of the customer service for these events.
We had our kick off performance yesterday With a dance show done by the group Urban Bush Woman. They are from New york and focus on modern dance and spoken word performance that focuses on bringing marginalized stories to the stage. It was my first time ever house managing and we did it at the John wright which is one of our bigger venues so I had all of my ushers working and got to show them how scatterbrained I am and watched me fly by the seat of my pants. Maybe I didn't make it all look cool calm and collected and in control, but I don't like trying to hide who I am or my confusion, I think If I'm not afraid to admit I'm just figuring things out too it will put people at ease. And if they think it means I'm not in control and they can take advantage of me, they will find out the first time they try that I am not to be messed with ^_^. mwahhhahhahha! I don't think it will come to that though cause they seem like a very good group.
So for the next month my evenings will belong to summer arts performances. We have some really interesting stuff coming up, tonight is a photo lecture by a famous photographer. If you wanna know what's going on go here http://www.csusummerarts.org/index.shtml
