This past weekend was indeed a glorious one. Adam and I went to Inner Harbor for two days for an early birthday celebration for me and it was quite lovely.
We left late morning Friday, got some (delicious) lunch on our way down, and arrived in Baltimore around 2pm. We were able to get into our hotel room right away, so we checked in, lounged a bit, then went exploring.
We were all over the “Harbor Place” area Friday afternoon. We walked through all of the little shops that were in the strip malls (for lack of a better term), toured the Torsk (a submarine) and the Chesapeak (an awesome old sailboat), checked out the Barnes and Noble in the power plant (I need to do some more research on the history of that place. I’m pretty sure it was actually a power plant that they re-made into restaurants/shopping), and poked around at various other stuff. Around 7ish we headed back to the hotel to get changed and head to dinner.
We had reservations at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and…oh my goodness…this was the best steak I have ever had. And I do mean ever. They sear it at about 1800 degrees so that it maintains all of its juices and flavor and then bring it to you on a 500 degree plate so that it stays warm while you’re eating it. Oh…em…gee! It was amazing. Orgasmic, really. It was by far the most expensive meal I’ve ever eaten-the steaks were served al a carte, you had to order your sides separately-but it was oh so incredibly worth it. I’m drooling just thinking about it!
After dinner we headed to Howl at the Moon, which is a piano bar down in ‘Power Plant Live!’. That was sooo much fun. Adam hadn’t ever been to a piano bar so it was new for him, but he really liked it. So that was a blast.
Saturday morning we got up, packed up, checked out, and headed off to explore some more. We started off with a water taxi ride to the Rusty Scupper for lunch. We had a corner table with harbor views. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was really nice. Another expensive but well worth it meal! After lunch we took a (very long) walk to the Baltimore Museum of Industry which was really, really cool to see. I had no idea how much stuff was made in Baltimore! After we got done poking around in there we took another (moderately long) walk to catch the water taxi and head to Fells Point. We wandered all around there and discovered that while it was a pretty area, there wasn’t nearly as much to see as expected. At that point it was too early for dinner, so we rode the water taxi down to Canton. We quickly discovered there really wasn’t anything to see there, so we took a (fairly long) walk back to Fells Point. We wandered around, found a place to eat, had a decent dinner (the cheapest one all weekend!) and then headed back to the parking garage to head home.
All in all it really was a wonderful couple of days away. It was great to travel around with my hubby and see what we could get ourselves into. And it was so relaxing! It’s so nice going on trips with him….it’s not necessarily to plan every.single.minute. Oh and the food we ate…*drools some more* We did do a TON of walking though, so neither of us paid for all the food too terribly bad. :-p
Our hotel room was very nice, by the way. We stayed at the Marriot Waterfront and had a harbor view room…it was gorgeous!
I took a ton of pictures, but I’m at work and they’re at home so I can’t post any. Maybe one of these days I’ll get around to it, but they’ll definitely end up on Facebook soon!
I have more to update about, but I don’t feel like it right now, so….that’s all!
