A Song of Ice and Awesome.

I've been reading George R. R. Martin's A Clash of Kings for the last few days now and it's essentially my idea of literary perfection. Lots of fully-rounded, well-realised characters many of whom are wonderfully venomous and backstabbing (although Theon Greyjoy is a bit too much for me, I can't stand the little prick); dark fantasy ideas verging into horror territory; a storyline more concerned with how the characters interact than with mystical quests and intangible Evil Lords of Darkness; and fascinating, genuinely gripping politics. The A Song of Ice and Fire series is without a doubt the very best novel-based fantasy I've experienced, it's just incredible in every possible way. Old news I know, but these really are the best books I've ever read.

And it's been nagging away at me for a while, but I've realised what the series reminds me of: Babylon 5. IT IS PRETTY MUCH A FANTASY VERSION OF BABYLON 5. And shit yes that's a good thing.

books: a song of ice and fire, books, tv: babylon 5
