He ate my heart.

I got my season two DVD set a few days ago and therefore resumed watching this astonishing series. I really don't want it to end, but I know it already has. Reality is so disappointing.

This episode was just brutal. Words fail me at how good Thomas Dekker was in it. I mean... jesus. Stunning acting aside, this episode was the most amazing character study of John Connor, showing us for the first time the man he will become, and that his destiny will have the most horrific cost to him as a person - it's eroding his soul and his innocence. Because no matter how many times John has been pursued by unstoppable evil robots from the future, he was still a boy who craved a normal life, still an innocent to an extent. We saw the start of this back in Samson and Delilah when he killed a man, but here it really hits home and it's all the more upsetting because he's still not an adult, he's just not ready. That final scene (pictured above) just broke my heart.

I love this series so much because of its drama (well, that and the incredible, beautifully subtle characterisation). The amazing action sequences are fine as it is, but The Sarah Connor Chronicles has really got the drama down perfectly, rendering simple dialogue scenes incredibly gripping - both John and Derek's final confrontations with Jesse were absolutely electrifying.

I'm still having a hard time believing that there really isn't going to be anymore. I guess it was just too fucking good to last.
