I've
already posted about how terrifying Annie Lennox can be before, but during my regular Youtube surfing sessions I rediscovered the music video that, back in 1992, was responsible for so many childhood neuroses and fears you wouldn't believe:
Love Song For A Vampire. These 4:31 minutes of pure, undiluted primal horror left me with a crippling fear of a) Annie Lennox, b) vampires and c) the Dracula movie with Keanu Reeves' thrillingly unconvincing English accent that this song accompanied (I'd clam up every time I saw the VHS in the shops).
Looking back on it via magical hindsight from the grimy, recession-ridden dystopia of 2009, I still think it's pretty strong stuff in a way (although I now think the song is pretty fucking ace). Lennox is ruddy terrifying - she looks frankly demonic in some shots, and it's made worse by the fact that the clips from the movie are actually quite extreme and I'm baffled as to why Top of the Pops showed it in full at around seven in the evening, which is how I saw it. I dunno, it just seems a bit much. What do you guys think? You can understand why Child Me was so scared, right?
Anyway, so this entry isn't completely redundant aside from being a look into my peculiar psyche, I'm wondering exactly what unlikely things on TV lead to some of your unique childhood fears.
In other "news", the Being Human season one DVD came thanks to the wonderful service of Royal Mail: Destroyer of Worlds, and after a brief period of raging that the pilot wasn't on it I discovered I didn't really mind that much. Going to be a bit of a pain showing the series to people who've never seen it before, though.
