Okay, that's enough excitement for a while.

Last night Cinnamon came to stay with us for the 2 weeks my parents will be in California. Everybody was getting along great until Maddie...she decided to go insane and attack Cinnamon. I grabbed her and cuddled her up in an attempt to calm her down, which mostly worked, until she decided to chase after the dog (who had run away after getting her ear attacked) into another room. Argh. I tried to catch her again and she snagged my left cheek with her front claws. I backed off (the only smart thing I did in this story) and waited for her to calm down. It didn't happen. She went after Cinnamon AGAIN, this time chasing the dog over to the side of the room where Colin was napping. That was the end of my tolerant, animal-loving rope and I grabbed her for real to throw her out of the house. She spun around and dug her claws into my eyelid and bit my thumb. I cleaned up the wounds with Kevin's help and was mildly concerned about my eye as it swelled shut almost instantly. Fortunately I got my contacts out before it was totally sealed. My thumb I kind of ignored - it was just sort of achey and annoying. I poured peroxide into the bites (4 perfectly evenly spaced puncture wounds. At least she's precise.) and covered it up with A&D and 4 band aids. Late last night I woke up from the throbbing pain in my right thumb. I went to the bathroom and undressed it, which was so painful I threw up doing it. The two punctures closer to the tip of my thumb were oozing pus and swollen nearly shut. Fabulous. I tried to pull the wounds open again to drain them, but I think I passed out in the attempt because I lost about 10 minutes of time in there. The next thing I remember is sitting on the edge of the bathtub crying and trying to remember when I had my last tetanus shot. So this morning at 9 I went to the MedCheck immediate care place in Castleton (back to Community North! I'm starting to feel really at home there between L&D, the pediatrician, and my OB's office.) to get a tetanus booster just in case. Turns out that one of the punctures went all the way to the bone in the knuckle of my thumb, fortuitously missing any muscle or tendon, and one other nearly made it all the way to bone. The two closer to my wrist are just nasty scratches and should heal just fine. I didn't need a tetanus booster or stitches, thank goodness, but I did get Augmentin and Vicodin. Apparently cat bites are one of the nastiest injuries a person can get as far as potential for infection and overall pain. Because the one bite is so deep, I have to take ridiculous precautions against getting a bone infection, which the doctor (very nonchalantly, if I do say so m'self) warned me would lead to hospitalization and possibly amputation of the thumb or hand. 0.o Thanks for the good news, doc! So I'll be washing the wounds 3 times a day and sticking meticulously to the drug regimen. It's not my dominant hand, but I still rather like it.

Anybody want a cat? She's cute, irritable, mean, and violent. *emphasis on CUTE*
