I wonder if there will be the same outcry over the death penalties handed out to two of the Bali 9 then there was over Nguyen Tuong Van's execution last year? I feel that standover tactics that these two employed on the other couriers will work against them in Australia's press - they are the bad guys in the story. I think the hanging aspect added to it as well (not that I see firing squad as good either). It will be interesting. It won't happen for a while though. It makes me sad. I don't care what they did.

I don't like capital punishment in any case, and it's not right from that perspective, but it is right that they are entitled to enforce their own laws and if you travel to these countries you should be prepared to accept the possible consequences, even if they aren't the best... our system is hardly the best, either... If the outcry continues, perhaps eventually they will review the laws. I wrote to the Singaporean government last time, and I'll write to the Indonesian government this time. And every time after that the death penalty is given to Australians. Time and continued discussion is probably the answer, and educating people as to the consequences of drug trafficking in other places... I think we learn to take our lenient system for granted. The "it will never happen to me" attitude/ignorance in more privileged nations has a lot to answer for... And after all that babble, I agree with you. I hope people don't ignore this.
