the 4th and research

Tuesday night I went down a genealogy rabbit hole. It cost me a lot of sleep. I’m too old to pull all-nighters, but I was excited to discover information that’s especially befitting of today. I think I found two ancestors who were veterans of the American Revolutionary War. I plan to reach out to the organization Daughters of the American Revolution to see how to go about confirming or debunking this. I haven’t explored my dad’s side very much, but it’s that lineage that’s been in America the longest. And I’d love to one day visit the various cemeteries.

I have to say that this year I have hardly heard any big booms leading up to today. I’m not complaining. I find myself wondering if people don’t have the extra money for it now or if we are in a demographic lull with no teens living nearby. Thankfully none of my dogs are bothered by the sounds.

I’m cooking for the holiday this year. Just trying to do something special for Mom. I haven’t cooked anything special for the holidays since it’s just the two of us now & we haven’t been invited to the smaller family dinners for years. Anyway, I usually only have two simple meals a day, so I’m already feeling a little overwhelmed with the extra side dishes for today because I’m going to have to eat this stuff for days and it's not the kind of food I usually eat. I made a bacon potato salad for something different (I have a traditional potato salad trauma lol) last night which I *knew* I should have cut in half because this is a lot of potato salad for two people. We must eat less than the suggested serving size because the 4-6 servings always feel like 6-10. I’m not a big fan of hotdogs, but that’s what Mom requested. I need to hurry up and go make the buns because I didn’t do that yesterday.
